That's an old one! The idea is that if you can get close enough to put salt on it's tale then you can catch it.

What is salt gonna do. If the bird is clipped then nothing can make it fly. If a bird is not clipped (get it clipped unless wild) a bird can still fly. SO YES.

Um, I think you're thinking of slugs. Of course a bird can still fly. Unless the bird is a turkey and you're salting it for dinner.
