Are they non-fanatical by comparison to fanatics? Is there a check list or something? Or do they just score low on the “On a scale of 1 to 10, how literal is your interpretation of the bible?” question?

Good question.

That's pretty much determined by what they do in their off time.
A fanatic will take Jesus to the street 24/7 and will save your soul whether you want it or not.
A non-fanatic will pretty much keep his/her faith to himself, bringing it up in the appropriate forums or conversation.

I hope that was useful, best wishes.

Im not sure that interpretation is in it. I think that the "fanatical" part is separate. Even separate from level of believe.

A fanatic on here is someone who searches for questions on a certain subject, jumps on every one, posts long cut-n-pasted answers with tons of links, an their post is filled with absolutes about what is a fact or unarguable.

Im also not sure why you would seperate the theists. I have seen the same fanatical actions by a number of athiests. Have you noticed the people with AM on their login (the Atheist Mafia) and their presence in many re-occuring questions?

People who are not fanatical about whatever aspect of their lives (religion, parenting or whatever it may be), simply *don't* go around comparing themselves to others. They recognised fanaticism (excess) when they see it, and don't admire it. But constantly comparing yourself to others to see how you "measure up" can itself lead to fanatical behaviour, if you're doing it out of a need to feel that you are "superior" to the people you're comparing to.

The non-fanatics are probably just out there doing the best they can in their corner of the world and not worrying about what other people think.

To me "fanatics" are those who insist that the world is flat, that the sun revolves around the earth, that God made Eve from a rib, that the Bible is inerrant despite unimpeachable evidence to the contrary....

Most of the people I know who consider themselves theists don't believe in any religious organization and often not in the Bible as well. If they are fanatical theists, they usually call themselves Christians.

I do not think any one considers them self fanatical but any who know Jesus are compelled to share the good news.

It is a system borrowed from the system that determines whether someone is just an atheist, or the typical yahoo answers evangelical atheist that obsesses over something they claim to have no belief in.
