I was on the invisible children website, getting some information about the war in uganda when I came across the schools for schools program.

I really want to get involved in the program b/c i am a high school student but it seems a little overwhelming. My school isn't registered and I don't really know how to get started.

If anyone has some information about the schools for schools program or other ways to help in uganda, let me know please!!!

Why not consider helping people in your own country first?

You should start speaking to the staff at your school. You could either try a favorite teacher, or your guidance counselor. You might also try a Social Studies teacher; it has been my experience that teachers in this subject are most likely to be intrigued by this type of program, and would be willing to be a faculty advisor. Print out some info from the website to give the teacher you think might be interested. They can help you take it from there, as well as help you find other like minded students. This program might appeal to many students, not just for the opportunity to help, but involvement in this kind of organization looks great on a college application.

I can't help you with your situation but I applaud your desire to be proactive to help others less fortunate. No school in this country is a "poor school" when compared to the "schools" in other countries such as Uganda, S. Africa, Peru, Mexico. I've visited schools in 3rd world/developing countries and if they even have pencils and notebooks they're blessed. Google search the schools for schools and "go for it." You may never meet the people you help but you'll change their lives for the better. Education is the way out of war and poverty.
