If this is true, does that mean that long-time atheists can never be "saved" if they eventually convert to Christianity?

I'm an ex-Catholic, now an atheist and don't believe in it but I do understand it. It's a waste of time for people here to proclaim how they don't believe it or it's wrong etc, the question is what does it mean; and if it's true what's the consequence for atheists.

The Holy Ghost is believed to be the manifestation of God's help at hand to guide mankind throughout whatever catastrophe they may come through. Denying the holy ghost means logically that you do not believe that there is a destiny for the human race to infinity even in different forms.

In the middle ages it was called "wanhope" - the deepest of all despairs and the loss of trust in God, and therefore the most mortal of all sins because it meant a voluntary separation from God's love.

It does not mean the ordinary despair that hits everybody from time to time when they look at events in the world, because a mortal sin (at least in Catholic theology) has to fulfil three conditions:
(1) Full consent: The person has to do so of their own free will without any pressure from others. So if a person gives in to despair because it's fashionable without thinking much about it, it's not a mortal sin.
(2) Full knowledge that it is wrong. An atheist would not be able to commit this sin since they would not believe it is a sin.
(3) Full understanding of what they're doing. Again, this would excuse the atheist because he/she would not have the full understanding of the relevant theology- if they did, they wouldn't lose hope.
In fact. it's quite difficult to ciommit a "mortal sin" no matter what guilt trips some people go on.

Lastly, the "sin against the Holy Ghost" is not a dogma, but a theological concept. It was never proclaimed as part of the arrticles of faith by the Pope "ex cathedra" and therefore Catholics have the freedom to believe in it or to deny it. Nowadays, if people think they have committed it, it's called a "reserved sin" which cannot be given forgiveness through ordinary confession, and must go to higher levels such as the local bishop, and if necessary the Pope.

Jesus Christ is a thank you to the father (John 14:6) and no person is going unto the father different than by way of Jesus. hence, in case you reject the very individual who died on the pass to keep you - how are you able to possibly be stored by way of Him? The Unforgivable sin is blaspheming the Holy Spirit however the Bible does not say this is the only Unforgivable sin. the place does the Bible say that? There are different Unforgivable sins. One is rejecting Jesus Christ who died for you. there is yet another unforgivable sin in Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10: 26 and 27 and Matthew 6:15 - in case you do not forgive human beings their sins against you, you are able to not be forgiven and so on.

No. In order to truly deny the Holy Ghost you would have to have first hand knowledge of the Holy Ghost or Christ or God. And I said knowledge, not faith or belief. Very few people can truly deny the Holy Ghost.

Most everyone will receive some degree of glory.

First lets assume that translation is infallable(Its not). Second you have to absolutley know what the Holy spirit is? Jesus according to scripture said that all sins are forgiven men except the blasphemy of the holy spirit(research aeons, eternity,). (Jesus hadnt died on the cross yet) So the price for sins hadnt been paid yet, How was all the sins except that one forgivin then??come on common sence. Its also written in scripture that to sin on one point of the law is to break all of the law. Does that not cover the Holy spirit sin??me thinks there could be a translation or other problem here someplace maybe??when man ate the tree of knowledge it was for the knowledge of good and evil, if we didnt know what evil was we couldnt tell what was good? and vice verse.therefore both work for god???

Holy ghost? As part of Trinity doctrine from Nicene creed? Roman Emperor Constantine about 325 ad called meeting of churchmen to get a uniform doctrine - he push Trinity. The Anabaptist's reject the trinity doctrine as a Catholic practice unsupported by scripture. Long time atheists need to accept teachings of Jesus, trinity not one of his teachings.

It means attributing to Satan the works of God.
In other words, let's say the Virgin came to visit someone somewhere in the world, and after all is said and done, the investigators find it to be real, and the work of the Holy Spirit. Well, someone comes along and disagrees and then goes one step further: "This is not of heaven, this vision was from hell!!!"

That person will not be forgiven.
