It seems that even if I wake up at a fairly decent time, I'm still restless until 3-4 am.

Exercise during the day. There was a report on 60 minutes or some show the other night that said studies have proved that exercise actually stimulates our sleeping genes, and makes us sleep through the night.

But at night, just decide you're not going to think about stuff, and make yourself stay in bed. I find that when I really do this, I fall back asleep even when I didn't think I was going to.

Meditation also helps you fall asleep. For me personally I say the Lord's Prayer and as I'm saying it I really focus on what each verse of it actually means ... I rarely make it to the end, it gets me very sleepy and relaxed. lol

I have a home remedy that use when I'm feeling restless. I hope you can get some zzz's.

2 tsp apple cider vineager
1 tbsp honey

Mix together and swallow. It burns a little going down but take it once in the morning and before going to bed. It makes me sleep like a baby. Good luck.

Oh this can also be used if you feel you are getting sick and have a sore throat.

It has helped me overcome countless bouts w/ colds and strep throat!

lets try to sort your problem in two steps.i can understand how weird it would be to spend the whole night awaken..strictly emphasise on your routine.early to bed and rise is the motto.go for very light meals preferably vegetarian dishes for dinner so that digestion do not distort your sleep procedure..next step is medication for insomnia(loss of sleep).but please, rely on medicines only when you are on a do dor die situation, because once you start on medication, you will never actually withdraw its usage until, maybe your death(just hope that doesnt happen).your dependence goes on increasing with time..hope you get better following a better routine.all the best.

Read a book propped up in bed. You'll be sleepy in no time. Something warm to drink helps too. Make sure you are active throughout the day, too much lying around will make you not so tired when it's bedtime.

a 25 mg over the counter benedril works for me on those occasions . if that too much warm milk actually helps the chemicals in the brain to induce sleep.

When i can't sleep i take over the counter Unisom..works really good. More on the herbal side you can go to GNC and get melatonin..its the hormone that your body naturally releases to make you sleep.
