I have black hair and I wanna dye part of my hair purple. Well if I put purple dye on my black hair would it turn purple? Or would I need to bleach my hair first?

You must bleach it first.

If you are going for a deep purple, getting your hair to an orange with bleach will be fine. If you want something brighter, bleach it to more of a light yellow.

Bleaching out black dye can be stubborn, be sure you pick a good bleach to use and follow the directions on it. After the maximum time on your head, WASH IT OUT. You can try sticking a plastic bag on your head and blowdrying it with the bleach on. This can make it process faster, but be CAREFUL as it can also cook the hair.

If you just dye over the black, it might make a purple shine. Not much more.

Chances are if it is a non-peroxide dye it may have a purple hue in sunlight, but will not be an exaggerated purple color. Yes, you would need to bleach it, very difficult on dark hair and not advisable for a novice to try.

you have to bleach it. there is no color on this earth that will do anything to dyed black hair. and bleaching black hair will be a royal pain in the ****. it will probably turn orange, and take 2 or 3 tries to get it light enough to take the purple.
