I have a model 111 Savage bolt action 30-06, with synthetic stock. Came with the scope mounted. It's my first gun, but I can say that it's light to carry around, and it's more accurate than I am. The price was low. It does kick more than other 30-06 I've tried, like remington, probabaly because it's so light.

Why a savage? Because it's cheaper and more accurate than a 700 or 77 The savage rifles are pretty light and the 06 will kick pretty good if you go with the synthetic stock. So if that's a concern to you, I would either go with the wood stock or drop down to a 308. As far as the scope goes, they are serviceable for most hunting applications. I eventually took mine off from the package and put it on a 22lr. What you want to do is buy another mount and rings as the ones they put on is cheap. You can have a cheap scope on a rifle, but you can't have cheap mounts. I'd go ahead and buy leupold mounts/rings or an equivilant brand. As far as prices, I don't know. Try impactguns website and that should give you a much better idea of what you'll pay at the larger chain stores like basspro, cabelas, or walmart.

Walmart or buy a good used one and save $$$$.* A new one doesn't shoot any better than a good used one.* When you have a 30-06 you don't need any other rifle.* I can consistently shoot three (3)* shot groups at 100 yards you can cover with a 50 cent piece with my Savage Model 110 in 30-06 caliber.*

30-06 is my favorite. Savage makes a lot of great rifles. Any one will do the job. Even Wal mart will have a combination with scope that you might like and afford. If you get into serious hunting or long distance shooting you will want a better scope no matter what comes with it. I like the Shepherd. They make the scope for your caliber with the bullet drop compensator for deer or varmits. You will always spend apx 2 times the amount on a scope that you do your rifle.

The 30/06 has been around along time. It is a good and trusted gun. But as for a savage. The are good any of then are it depends on what you want on the gun. Scope,Grade 1 wood, and finish.Bolt action is the best shooting. then lever action and then pump.

Skip the Savage and buy a Remington 700 in either 30-06 or 7MM Remington Magnum.

Savage in general make pretty guns. Their prices are nice when compaired to a remington. Savage sells a lot of their guns are bundles or packages which include scope and &guns and cases. They also use some really custom feathers and high end stocks. They cost anywere form 375-1200 depends where and what you buy. if you are looking at a all inclusive out of the box package look at the Savage 116.
pros ; chote/mcgallen stocks ,accu trigger, button heavy barrel, the flooting stock .
cons : weatherby is weatherby cannot compaire it to savage

I don't own any savages but, they are good weapons. The acutrigger is a great advancemant in the industry. You can buy a package gun w/ scope and guarranteed less than 1MOA from factory. The 30.06 is agood all around cartridge. It can fire a 120 gr. to 220 gr. bullet able to take any game animal in north america.

30/06 is a good rifle
what your looking for is something with a lot of twists in the barrel.
the heaver the gun the less the recoil.
if you want a nice kit the look at "Stevens" there make by savage. my advice if you looking for something to hunt whitetail then get a .308 the ammo is cheap and powerful its perfect for deer any were between 100 and 300 yards if your a good shot
