If so, could you tell me about what happened and how you feel now?

I feel like I should say something, cause it seems like a similar question I've asked, but I have no idea what to say.

I wouldn't want to post personal experiences openly, anyways.

If you want any advice on depression, you could probably e-mail me or something, I think it's in my profile.

I just answered a question by "Cody J" asking for help in committing suicide. I said I had attempted it when a young man, failed, got help and recovered. The reasons are that I was sick and down on my luck, It was the stupidest, most selfish thing I have ever done.

Good luck, Happy New Year, good mental health, peace and Love!

Edit: Some time later. Why don't you look up Cody J's question, answer it, try to talk some hope into him and maybe e-mail him as a fellow despondent person? MM

Elizabeth,

I know I can't add much to this discussion, as I haven't actually attempted suicide, but believe me, I've been in the middle of serious depression, and I know how fvcking horrible it can be. Add the social pressure from the holidays, and it's just one big crappy feeling. When you're there, all you want to do is find a way out of things, and suicide seems like the most reasonable route. Here's where my experience fades out (I had my self-esteem destroyed in a bad relationship and went through six months of therapy for anxiety and depression), and others' experiences kick in.

Like Mad Mac said, there are so many people on the Internet in the exact same place as you are that it makes sense to reach out to at least one of them. One place you may want to look into is the "PostSecret Community" (www.postsecretcommunity.com/chat), which along with the PostSecret blog has changed my views about people, depression, society, etc. forever. If you prefer for it to be anonymous, then call 1-800-SUICIDE - their lines are always open.

The fact that you're asking questions about mental recoveries AFTER suicide attempts tells me that you're having doubts about suicide, and that's a veeery good thing. The problem with suicide is that if you in fact succeed in killing yourself, then it's absolute. Please, please, PLEASE think about what you're doing before you go through with your plan.

Best of luck, my friend. I hope to see you asking questions in 2008, too!

-Adam

this is a rather personal question dont you think?

however im going to give you my honest answer. I attempted. I failed. I have always been afraid of death but have wanted it so badly. one day not to long ago i wasnt afraid of death. so i thought to myself, "do it now, before you chicken out." I got about half way through my suicide plan (i wont tell you in case you are contemplating) i got a mental image one person i was sure would miss me. not me parents, siblings, relatives of any sort. not even my friends. It was a picture of my sports trainer. I had plans for dinner with them that night and imagined the phone call being made telling them i wouldnt be able to make it, because id committed suicide. I stopped then. the very next day i got a four page word document sent to me through email from that person telling me how much i meant to them. It made me stop and think about this fraze: "to the world you are just one person, to one person you may just be the world"

Thirty years ago, my one-day old infant son died. My husband and I separated one month before, so I was all alone (so I felt). I found myself driving down the Interstate, picking out cars to drive into...but this car had a young woman with probably a young family who needs her.....the man in another car was probably a grandfather, with grandkids would would miss him....eventually I would find myself back in my own driveway. I tried driving for 10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, all with my eyes closed, waiting for someone to hit me, but Nothing would happen. Then a week went by. Another week went by. Eventually I stopped crying. Eventually, I was able to smile again, then laugh again. I began to heal from the pain. I learned how to deal with the pain. I began to live again.

Thirty years has gone by. I remarried. I have a daughter. I have two grandchildren. I have a wonderful life, full of fun, laughter, and love. And I thank God every blessed day that He pulled me through. The muscle it took to get through that period was not mine, it was His.

I don't actually believe that a person who survives a suicide attempt actually wanted to kill themselves in the first place, excluding those people who are saved by someone else. Think about how easy it would be for someone to succeed in killing themselves...how can they possibly fail if they didn't really WANT to fail? I think a lot of them are cries for attention or help.

there are times when we feel our lives are in a mess.. we are feel useless, we feel every aspect in our lives is just messed up. what you need to know is everyone has a purpose in every lifetime.. each different.. humans have come to spiritually progress. when you take your life, a whole life has been wasted and you will have to relive it and go thru even harder barriers this time.. do you know, that when someone is doing terribly in life.. thats when he is undergoing the most spiritual proogress..therefore, he is going thru the essential part of his life.. taking your life is never worth it..you can live your life to its fullest if you choose to. you can have a wonderful life if you choose to.. you just have to get your self out of your current state and don't give up.. i had been thinking about it once when i realised my path in this lifetime.. what i was meant to do.. find your path.. not only will you do better in this life, once you find your path, its much easier for you.. whenever you consider suicide remember that you are throwing away a precious lifetime and remember your mission..
i reccomend you watch the secret.. its truly motivating and can bring you out of oyur worst situations.
