If you are talking about turbulence on a flight from Perth to Bali in a jet then it should be OK. It is hot in Perth in January so there could be some low level thermal turbulence in the first few minutes after take off depending on what time you leave. The jet streams, which are the main cause of clear air turbulence are to the south of Australia or over Perth so you should be north of them and not experience any CAT.

The monsoon trough, however, is over northern Australia and afternoon thunderstorms are common in Bali in January. It could get quite bumpy on descent especially if you are descending in cloud.

Don't worry, turbulence is nothing to fear. It is just the movement of the air pushing the plane around. Planes are built very strongly and are designed to flex in turbulence. The biggest danger in turbulence is for passengers who are not wearing their seat belt. That is what the belt is for - to keep you in your seat if you hit some turbulence. Otherwise you might bounce off the ceiling. Everyone injured in turbulence incidents was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

You don't need the belt done up tightly, just comfortably as you would with a car seat belt. If you want to walk around, do so, don't worry about turbulence, but when you sit down, put your belt back on.
