Yes, all muslims are allowed to read it and be informed of what happens and is written in other religious communities.
In Islam, it is even recommended to obtain knowledge of all things, though reading and travelling.
If some people do not read it out of fear, that their faith will be somehow 'corrupted', I think these are the weak link.
If one is strong in their faith, then being put in a situation that challenges it-without loosing it- is the ultimate proof of their strength.

i'm a muslim and i've read bits of it - so the answer is yes. But i read it for an essay - so it wasn't really for any kind of religious enlightenment
