Actually, a Prophet always comes to us "like a thief in the night" which means it's unexpected. A Prophet's coming is never obvious, God wants us to LOOK for Him. If a Prophet's coming is very obvious, then there is no need to be "alert and sober" as we're told to be.
The following shows how we're to be on the alert, and that a Prophet's coming does not happen obviously.

20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, "**THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS NOT COMING WITH SIGNS TO BE OBSERVED**;

No worries, the martians will come in a cloud of small spaceships, with little green men in. They'll try to kill everyone, but we'll be saved by godawful country and western.
