I was brought up Christian. The same lines pounded in my head with no proof, just testimonials. I am not convinced its any different than any other world religion. To me they all seem made up. Heaven & Hell (carrot & stick). It requires blind faith and a threat you if you don't believe as they want you to. Can someone say something that will help me to get beyond this doubt. I just can not force myself to lie to myself for the comfort of believing that life won't end when I die.

I'm not talking about god. I feel that there may be a god but not one that cares much about us. May be too busy with the big picture. I'm talking about Christian beliefs. Why is this the one true religion? Why should I believe in this? I am not yanking your chain. I am fishing for something that I haven't heard before.

Someone said, "The proof is there", where? What proof? Please don't quote the Bible, to me those are just words of men and men lie, even to themselves.

I wish I could help, which part do you have difficultly with? How we got here and how/why we were created or the birth/death/resurrection of Jesus and what he did and how we are now saved b/c of him?
The proof is there, its not all on "blind faith"- hope you find what you are looking for.
Also, Christianity is also the only faith that has historical evidence, all that is said in the Bible can be proven.

***Read The Case for Christ. It has a lot of great info of religious facts that were found or documented in secular works- things that happened in the Bible that were confirmed by non-believers.

Christianity is not a 'carrot and stick' religion. A lot of people think it's a 'do this or go to hell' religion, but that's not the way God intended it.
You need to understand that it is not a religion of do's and don'ts- it is a relationship with the Creator. You need to understand that it is God's way of reaching out to mankind.
We have an invisible, perfect, eternal, all powerful being who loves physical, imperfect, finite human beings. How can He relate to them?
God is as much above us, as we are above an ant. If you were trying form a relationship with an ant, how could you get through to it? It has no idea what you are, because you are not even in the same league with it. The first thing you have to do is become like the ant! So that's what God did- He became human, so He could relate to us on our level. There's no way we could understand eternity, or the invisible supernatural realm, because we've never seen it or been there. How could God ever explain something to us that we have nothing to compare it to?
So He had to relate to us in simpler terms. He had to let us know that He was a perfect God who could not dwell in the presence of sin, injustice, unrighteousness. Man is anything but perfect. God needed to show us that He doesn't hold anything against us- all we have to do is believe He is there, and believe He sent Jesus (Himself in the flesh) to pay the price for our unrighteousness and sin. He couldn't just let lawbreakers and sinners into His perfect domain- He had to clean them up. The only way He could do that was if they let Him do so.

That's why we accept the work of Christ on the cross- His death was actually God taking our punishment. We deserved hell, He didn't. But He took it instead. All we have to do is believe it, and we are given the ticket of eternal life, and live with the one who loves us forever. He has no desire for us to go to hell. The only reason we would go is because we refuse to take the ticket out of hell that Jesus offered us. We just have to accept it by faith. This is not a carrot on a stick. He wants a friendship and a relationship with you, because He loves you so much, and He doesn't want to lose you.

You say you believe there maybe a God that's a good start. I myself couldn`t believe that there isn`t a God . I`m 62 soon to be 63 and I have had many things happen in my life and I`ve seen a lot of things. I`ve been there saying God isn`t real but somewhere down deep inside I knew he was and I`m so glad that he didn`t give up on me. He gives me peace that comes in times of trouble and I feel him within my spirit and soul.He gives me peace within all the turmoil. I can`t prove to you he`s real but you can search for him if you really want to and he`ll show his self to you in away that you will understand.

Forget everything you've learned about Christianity. Question everything. Be honest about what you DO believe. God doesn't want you to believe everything you hear or have been taught because much that is taught in Christianity is in error. You have to find your own path. One of the disciples prayed, "Lord, help my unbelief". Maybe you could begin with that prayer. And you will grow from there. And if you do believe something you have been taught ( or not ) it will be honest. I think God wants honesty above everything.

You can only live by the light you have. You don't need to live by someone else's light.

I think the best thing to do is pray. Ask God to give you understanding and wisdom. No one can "make" you believe. If you don't already, get a study Bible and read a little each day, even if just for 15 minutes

I don't think anything will get you to believe. It is just an internal belief. I am Jewish, but do not know much about the religion, so find it hard to classify myself as Jewish. I just feel there is a higher power. You either feel this way, or you don't. But just think, whether or not you believe he is there, does not affect whether or not he exists.
