I would still check the water pump for flow and the coolant level and any air that could be trapped in the system.

you could have air trapped in the cooling system if thats not go to tour local auto parts store and get a coolant pressure checker is is probably around thirty dollars or even some places rent them at no cost as long as you return them. also ask the store if they have a guide to help you read the device to indicate what the problem is. this pressues the system to see if you have any leaks or possible head gasket leak inside engine.

Just got done fixing one just like that, needs a water pump. The fins on the stock water pump are cheap and fall apart.
