am planning on getting a ps3 do i need to get a cooler for it?? does it get hot even when you are watching blue ray movies??

On the contrary, DON'T buy a cooler, those things make things worse, because they don't let the original air cooling system work properle. Just leave a 10cm (approx. 4 inches) gap around it to "breathe".

You really don't need to get a cooler if you're going to use it to keep the PS3 from overheating. I have my PS3 running overnight when I'm doing the folding@HOME and so far, there's been no problem. I also play games for about 3 to 5 hours straight, and I haven't had a problem.

The PS3 turns itself off if when it's about to overheat.

The cooler isn't used to keep the PS3 from overheating. It's used to extend the life of the PS3.
