UFC fighters do not wear head gear and pads because its professional mixed martial arts. It is just "tradition" to not have pads, unless you are a minor that is still learning at a center, etc.

Pads get in the way of grappling and a headgear limits your head movement and vision, which would in turn greatly affect your reaction time. Besides, have you ever been caught in a headlock with a headgear on? The straps on the headgear will most likely get in the way and choke you.

All that stuff can make the fighters look amateurish. It would look awesome to have everybody fully armored with motorcycle helmets and baseball bats but that would turn the thing back into a spectacle.

Bacause it is full contatct mixed martial arts. Untill a few years ago they didnt even wear gloves. To find out who is truely the Ultimate Fighter, you cant have pads softening the blows. These are some of the toughest guys in sports today. If they need to wear pads they are in the wrong sport.

Pads are for amateur fights. Professional fights do not use pads. It is this way in boxing as well.
