around the purple area. Is this normal?

I burned my foot yesterday. My skin has blistered and turned purple, with a larger red area around the purple area. Is this normal and how can I treat it?

Ouch!

Given it has blistered means you have a second degree/partial thickness burn, and to prevent an infection setting in I strongly urge you to seek medical attention, especially since it is a fairly large area.

The doctor will give you some good pain medication and other medication to treat the burn, such as Silvardene which also helps prevent the burn from becoming infected.

Good luck and hope your foot heals well

In the mean time keep it covered with a NON-stick dressing, you can also apply a anti-septic cream and DO NOT prick the blisters, as this increases the chance of an infection.

Ok, if the burn is that bad you must seek medical advice and help asap. If and when the blister does burst it is open to infection and so is any other area exposed at the moment.
They say if a burn is larger than a 50pence (uk) you must seek help. This is normal but not good seek help now before something worse happens. Dont pick at it, dont put butter or marg or oil on it as many others say to do this is a myth.

ive been burned three times since i was little by an iron and by the stove and my skin turned a deep pruple color but when i got burnt (once) by boiling water (soup) it was white first then red and then purple around the middle so i would say it is normal because i don't have any problems now and
(mos later) not even a scar! if it is a large area though i think you should see a doctor. good luck

this is a normal response to a burn the best treatment is to apply silvadene cream to the entire area. however, a serious infection can occur in burns. watch for any signs of infection..... increased redness, puss-like drainage, warmth at the burn site or any other change in the burned area that shows a progressive worsening rather than improvement seek medical attention from your doctor should any of these occur. a common bacterial organism that causes infections in burns is called pseudomonis.

I suggest a trip to your local hospital. From the sound of it it's a large scald which should be looked at by a professional as infection could cause more problems. Hope this helps.

there are creams you can use on burns found in the drug store. aloe vera gel is also great. if u can, get pure aloe....even better straight from the leaf. vitamin e also helps in healing. but your burn sounds pretty large. you might want to see a doctor to be on the safe side.
