Hey guys, just asking this question to resolve an argument. Can somebody kindly tell me what is the largest religious group in the world please? I could find it easily on the net but I'm lazy and I feel like handing out points. SO, whoever tells me the CORRECT answer in a humourous way wins...also, if no humourous answer is provided I'll just hand out the points to the correct answer...long story short, I want the correct answer, please =^D thanks guys!

Well, this is a more difficult question to answer than you might imagine. How do you define "group"?

If you're asking for a title, then the "Christian" group certainly wins hands down. More than 2 billion people worldwide call themselves "Christian." However, they're just as likely to call most others who call themselves "Christians" something akin to "hell-bound, devil-worshiping heretics." This leads to the interesting outcome that most Christians would actually trim the number of "true" Christians in the world by something like 90%.

Next comes Islam. Muslims number in toto about 1.5 billion adherents. They are also an interesting lot, because they, too, have difficulty defining whether someone is a true Muslim. They're not so neatly divided into denominational camps as the Christians, but nonetheless they are at least as judgmental of behavior and whether God looks favorably on one person, group, or nation or another person, group or nation. The numbers of Muslims are rising, but with the spread of warfare & Sharia law and its love affair with capital punishment (often implemented via decapitating punishment), any increases in membership may be offset by a combination of wartime losses and the executions of those who offend Allah.

Next closest in number are the 1.1 billion Non-believers, which include those who say no God exists, those who say they have reason to doubt any God exists, and those who don't give a darn whether any God exists.

Is this a group? Perhaps. If so, we certainly aren't trying to subdivide our collective selves, or for that matter, divide our religious neighbor's body into subsections. Granted, our only binding feature is that we have a single thought on a single issue. So everyone who is non-religious is not about to accuse someone else of being secretly religious. If you say you don't believe, you're in.

If you were to consider Non-believers as a group then we would outnumber the others simply because they actively try to schism their brethren from their religion. It is an eternal game of "King of the Mountain" with everyone claiming their own personal peak is the real mountain. Non-believers, in contrast, live on a level plain, and rest in an exceedingly large tent.

So this may or may not be convincing. If you're looking from outside their bubbles, Non-believers are outnumbered by both Christians and Muslims. However, there's a lot of turmoil inside those religious bubbles. Non-believers may fight about lots of other things, but we're all willing to say one thing together, "Religion is not for us."

Jehovah's Witnesses. These are well educated, dedicated, and all the work they do is free.

With more than one hundred thousand kingdom Halls around the world and three being built every week. They surpass any organization on earth, Yes more McDonald's, Burger Kings, Wendy's, and churches added together.

As you go across the bridge to the Bronx,
All of those building are owned by Jehovah's Witnesses in which all the literature is printed along with the Watch Tower Farm in up state New York and Patterson. We also have regional printing Facilities in over 238 lands, countries, Islands, mountain regions and places no one would even think of going. There are also some six thousand people trianed, educated and baptized every week, that's why we need so many Kingdom Halls built every week.
Well that just the tip of the ice burg, but I hope I gave you some information you did not know.

Sincerely your,

There'll be sites out there listing them, But off the top of my head I suspect it's the Hindies.

Although if one lumbers ALLL the Abraham faiths together they'd make it to the top 5. But expecting ALLL Muslims, Jews and Xians to work together is another matter.

Nominally, it is the combined sects that claim to be Christian @ 33% or approximately 2.1 billion.

Sorry Fred, JW's only have in the vicinity of 6 million, a long way from the big time as far as religion goes.

However, as I've heard it said, a million French men can be wrong & one Englishman be right! ! ! LOL

Although there are more Muslims in the world than Catholics, they are not united in any particular fashio other than Sunni/Shiite. Hindus may come close to them in number, but I think it would be the Catholic Church, even though many of its members don't even believe in many of that group's doctrines. As far as religious unity in belief, they are not the biggest group.

But remember, just because they are the biggest group, doesn't make them true.

Jesus said that most people are on the broad road to destruction. Also, that many people would come to him in the Day of Judgement and profess to be his followers, but he would profess to them that he never kn ew them. (Matthew 7)

Sorry not sure. There's alot of Christans, Caths, and a good bit on Nazes. I'm not sure if I know to many Jews. I don't think there's a Jew church around here eigther altho there might be.

Not sure, but if I was to guess I'd say Christan and Caths.

I'm Cath. (I was baptized in a Cath. church) and Naz (I use to go to a Naz church) and I'm not just saying the Caths part because I'm one I'm just saying it because I think there's a good bit of them and there is also alot of Christans. So if I had to pick 2 out of Naz, Jew, Cath, and Christan I'd pick Cath and Christan.

Bye bye!! =).
