Sometimes, I even have to get my teddy bear. And that is just really weird. Lately the fear has gone up a lot. But nothing bad has happened to me either. BTW I am not a small person, I am 5'11 and weigh 160 I am not fat but you know, I am a big guy.

I was just wondering if anyone had advice......any noise at night will scare the crap out of me (just an expression)

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Try saying that to yourself instead of your song about monsters. It's actually from the Bible, and it's something we sometimes need to be reminded of. If you're a Christian, there's no reason to fear anything. You've got the power and love of Christ in your life, and that should be sufficient. Plus you've got a dog sleeping with you. What dog wouldn't protect his owner? :)

Fear of the dark is very common, and instinctual. In earlier times, without benefit of the shelter and conveniences we have today, nights were long and dark, and people were exposed to the elements and predatory animals. There's nothing wrong with having a night light, many adults do the same thing. For those that are prone to sleep paralysis and/or night terrors, a source of light can bring relief from these experiences.

As your anxiety has increased, I really believe it would be beneficial for you to talk to a professional - not that it sounds like you need anything long term, but if you can pin down why you are suddenly so hyper-aware of your surroundings that they're causing you undue anxiety, you can find a way to address it. I promise you, you will get better. My best to you.

I don't think there is anything wrong with sleeping with a night light. I still do and I am in my 20s, married and with two kids lol. I think if you are more comfortable sleeping with a light on then just do it. Who cares what anyone else thinks. I continue sleeping with a light on and some kind of noise (usually a tv). Just do what is comfortable for you. However, if you feel this fear of the dark is unreasonable or that it interferes with your daily life then by all means go talk to someone professional about it. Otherwise, I don't see a problem with it.

Heck no theres nothing wrong with that. I am 28 and I sleep with a night light! It will get easier when u get older and ull be less afraid in time when you see that nothing bad happens.

I had REALLLY bad anxiety when I was your age I used to try to sleep with my mom and ofc shed kick me out LOL
and im all right now i can actually get up and go to the bathroom overnight without having to zoom thru the house turning on every light I run past on my way to the bathroom lolol

Also I used to sleep with my bible under my pillow I used to look outside the window and that eased my paranoid thinking and kept my mind on other things. Also reading a book before bed that has a good positive story in it.

Every now and then when I cant sleep I will just watch TV until I fall asleep-- its all abt keeping your thinking in check.

Trust me I am 19 and still don't like the completely pitch black. Just freaks me out that anyone or anything could be there then I remember that God loves me and won't let me to come to any harm. I had some type of lighting till I was probably 15-16. Just rember think of all the reasons it can't be what you think it is. A good thing to tell your self " There is nothing to fear but fear itself".

It's fine dawg, everyone is scared of something. You don't even have to tell people that you have a nightlight cause you're afraid of the dark, just say that it's hard to navigate in the dark without it. Personally, I can't sleep with any light whatsoever, it keeps me awake for hours!

You could also maybe try playing some music while you go to sleep, to distract yourself from the random noises that scare you.

Sure, why not? Lots of people sleep with nightlights or at least have them in some room of their house. If anyone comments about it just say that you always fall over things in your room in the middle of the night and the light helps you see. Or if someone sleeps at your house tell your parents that you want to leave a hallway light on all night so at lease a little bit of light gets into your room.

hunny, i had the same fears! don't worry! Lay off the scary movies... scary movies don't do any good for anyone. You can live without them and all they do is put fear into your mind. Also, I'm a christian and I've found a place to feel safe. Whenever I feel scared I sing sunday school songs like "jesus loves me" or "jesus loves the little children". I'm praying for you,.

LOLZ...sissy!

Just joking...I had the same problem. You just have to confront your fear. Turn all the lights off, then remove the night light and sit on the floor next to the plug for a while so that you can plug it back in if you get scared, until you feel comfortable enough to sit on your bed, then lay down. Repeat this every night until you can fall asleep without the night light. Just don't look at any mirrors while you do this...or Bloody Mary will get you. Just kidding...sorry. But, yeah, try it and let me know how it goes.
