I would like to purchase a heavy bag and wondered what one would use to fill it if bought online, unfilled such as found here at the bottom of the page:

http://store.titleboxing.com/thaisheav1.html

It would save me money on shipping and cost of the item but I am not sure if it is even worth it. The descriptions of filled bags mention single or multiple layers of reinforcement foam to resist sagging over time. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

Go and get some scraps of carpeting and carpet padding and cut them up into 2" wide strips and 12"-18" long. This will keep the bag somewhat lighter and easier for hanging and give it more the consistency of an actual body. Sawdust is another thing you can use but it tends to settle some. Sand is not good because it is so much heavier, settles more and like saw dust can be messy. A good heavy bag should move around some but not too much when hung and not be so hard that it hurts to hit or kick it. Century makes some excellent water bags that you just fill a rubber bladder with several gallons of water and they have an inner layer of foam padding over that covered by the vinyl bag so they are not to heavy and you may want to consider one of them.

The sand will get "everywhere" talking from experience Suggest you fill with dry corn the yellow pods from corn on the cobs, and do not use a duffle bag, sure you think it will be cheaper but it is not worth it in the long run. I has a sandbag sat on my desk the sand got .... might have said that bit already

Buy a filled one, its easier in the long run.
You can use lots of shredded cloth (from old clothes) but you really need to compact this so tight to get a good bag. I wouldn't recommend sand. I emptied mine when I was a kid and tried filling it with sand, when that gets damp it weighs a ton, I couldn't lift it to hang from the tree.
Good luck.

News paper.Into a standard bag you can pack up to 200 pounds of newspaper .That's a heavy bag.And it has such a pleasing resounding smack when you hit it.Your punching power will increase 10 fold .
