One of the reasons I was initially hesitant about enlisting was because I knew I would be apart from her for a while. What steps do I need to take to ensure I can have my dog back with me ASAP?

As a single E-3 there aren't many options. As a married E-3 you have more leeway. Also, they are correct above when it comes to asking your chain of command if there would be a possibility for you to move off base/post. Chances are slim, but it may happen. One option would be to befriend someone who lives offpost and see if your dog can stay there. But seeing as you are in the Navy, chances are high for you to go underway. Somewhat win-lose, pretty much. Sorry to break it to you. That gives you a reason to advance quick. E-3 to E-5 can be attainable in 2 years. Options are greater at E-5 than E-3.

i replaced into military.. some years in the past. I had my degree and replaced into certain my value and left boot camp an E-3. I had 2 weeks between commencement and A-college. in spite of if, it could have been that the type replaced into forming and for this reason I had 2 weeks. i know one present day recruit that went immediately from boot camp to A-college. that's between the questions you need to ask your employer Commander, a CPO who's in can charge of you adult males. yet, i could recommend you no longer ask till approximately 4 weeks into your recruit coaching. while you're certain a cost and school, my wager is which you isn't deployed in the previous college as countless the nay-sayers could ignorantly have you ever suspect. And the army's between the main secure outfits interior the protection stress... till you're an HN, a SEAL, or a SWCC... then it could get somewhat bushy. Aboard deliver... the place you would be 0.5 of your occupation... you're a shifting aim. to boot, maximum ships are in activity communities alongside with an plane service. no longer too many are dumb adequate to handle a service activity team. Shore stations are generally particularly a techniques from the battling. in the adventure that your a Corpsman, you will be related to a Marine outfit... and the Marines are generally thrown into the worst circumstances. SEALs and wrestle team are generally notably clandestine, yet while it hits the fan, stuff happens... notably without delay...additionally no longer for the faint-hearted.

I'm sorry, but you should not take your dog back. What happens when you get sent off for training somewhere, or maybe even deployed...what would you do with your dog then? If he has a stable home, you should do him the favor of staying there and not being cramped in a small apartment somewhere with you having to be gone a lot. Plus you would need to stay at a pet friendly apartment...if they allow you to move out of the barracks. I'd say that for the wellfare of the dog, you should leave him in a stable environment...it'll be easier and better for both you and the dog in the long run. I'm sorry =(

You're probably not eligible for living outside the barracks until you make E4, then you can have your dog, if your apartment place lets you. You'll be in basic, then A school, possibly C school, so it may be a year before you can join up with your dog....

as a single E3 your chances of being allowed to live off base are about NIL. earliest you can expect to be given permission and BAH is E5, and in many cases..E6.

Now, this doesn't mean you can't move off base on your own.. as long as you realize: No BAH, you must still maintain your barracks room/rack and inspections and you will have NO protection when it comes to breaking the lease for a deployment.

speaking of which: since 95% of all first termers get sea duty: who is going to feed and walk the dog while you are underway half the time? What then?

Usually they don't yet young privates move off post if they have rooms in the barracks. You might have to go thru your chain of command for special authorization.

If they let you move off base you probably won't get any type of allowances so you will be hurting and as far as the dog is concerned it will be up to the land lord.

You won't be able to keep a pet until you either move into family housing or off post. Neither if these is likely to happen until you qualify for housing allowance, unless you want to pay out of pocket.

if you make it through bootcamp and your schooling and get to the first duty station you may be able to have your dog then.
