There are words that can be used to describe what murder is, but murder pretty much speaks for itself as far as the English language is concerned.
No single word means the same thing, because murder is not just killing or homicide. Murder is intentional.

homicide is the best t use, despite the degrees
if you murder yourself, its suicide
if you murder a baby, its infanticide (timing? abortion is still debatable in the US)
murder with absence of malice, its manslaughter
murder in war, its a war-crime
murder by law, its capital punishment.
