because if they really started to believe it- then they would have to realize that they are sinners in need of a Savior. Actually this is only partly true- it is really hard to realize that a "book" that was written could be actually the word of God- however it is- and we have a choice to believe it or not.

I put down the bible because so many people put their entire existance on it. How can anyone believe in a book that is a completely flaw filled joke. If you read Thomas Paine's age of reason part 1 and 2 you will get a good understanding of what the bible actually is.
Before you start knocking Paine as an atheist who already has his bias in place. Thomas Paine believes devoutly in God but can't believe that the Bible is actually followed.
anyone who believes in the bible should research where the bible came from and how the books were chosen and who actually authored the books.
I make fun of the ignorant that try to push their ignorance on others especially with a Harry Potter book.........Sorry I mean the bible.

I don't, but I correct people who misrepresent the Bible. People who are putting down the Bible are doing it because they are fighting against what mainstream religion says that the Bible says. Mainstream religion says that hell is a place of eternal torment when the original language of the Bible clearly says that Hell is a place of the dead or the grave. Mainstream religion says if you don't believe what they tell you, you are going to this eternal torment place. (which is not Biblical) Mainstream religion teaches that you have to scare people into church , but the Bible says that you should love them in. God so LOVED the world. There is too much tossing around the concept of eternal torment and too little sharing the Love of God.
Some mainstream religions have offended so many people that they don't even want to look into what the book actually says. They would rather run from it because mainstream religions have made God to look like an angry monster waiting to devour every sinner on the face of the earth.

Most people (myself included until I took a decent courses in New and Old Testament) don't understand how the Bible came to be, the purpose of its various writings, and accepted ways to interpret it. They rely on a few snarky comments about biblical contradictions (which do exist) or the book's bloodthirsty passages (there are those too) or its irrelevance to modern ethics (some of that too).
They miss how the book is a history of the struggles of a nation (and I don't mean the US) to come to terms with its status as chosen by God and to be a light to the gentiles. They think that a brutally honest telling of its people's failing is the same as claiming those failings as virtues.
And finally, sorry to say this, many people think themselves morally superior by putting down this complex and incredible book.

Basically it's ignorance.
There are a lot of issues in the world today and we have no definite answers for most of them, only conjectures - like how the universe began, origin of life etc. At such a time excluding an explanation of how we got here, esp. from a Book that is otherwise historically accurate, is childish to say the least.

People on this site is reflective of the people in our Society in general. Our culture sadly is becoming increasingly morally deficient and the views held here are the same you will find in your school, job, neighborhood, mall or any other place you can name.
This site also serves a good purpose spiritualy speaking as it wakes christians up and alert them in the growing hatred our nation is having towards Christian values...really towards Jesus Christ and God.
....a school stopped a Christmas play because some of the songs were about Jesus Christ as a babe in a manger, The ACLU organization continue to sue cities if they have a Nativity scene on public grounds, the 10 commandments are being taken out of court houses, inTexas they stopped people from praying before the high school football games, organizations are trying to take the phrase "One nation under God." out of the pledge of allegiance....etc..etc...etc.
Christian, knowing this you must prepare, you must pray for our nation, tell others about Christ and know that Christ one day will return. God says He will not return until there is a falling away, it has started, Satan is slowly gaining a foothold in the hearts of people.
I hope this in part answers your question. Look up Jay Sekalow on the Webb, listen to his messages they will surprise you.

Because more and more evidince is becoming common knowledge now, that shows and proves that the Bible has been manipulated through out history. 20 years ago no one knew about the councel of Nicea, except for highly educated scollars. No one knew who wrote it or when. When the world was more ignorant of its history it was reveared as the word of God. Now it is more commonly understood to have been written by others, who sometimes lived in very different times than Jesus. Also, it is more publicly known that the Catholic Church once created the concept of Hell to manipulate all the sinners to feel obligated to pay for salvation. A good example of this is the story of Martin Luther and the lengths that he went to to prevent the church from "cashing in" on the ignorance of people who gave the church money to buy their dead relatives out of purgatory. In the past no one knew much of this but now thanks to the History Channel and Discovery and others, more people know how it came to be. It is also important to note that the Bible read in Hebrew says things that are a lot different than what our modern Bibles say.

Well, some people are rather insecure about their own lack of belief concerning religion and an afterlife. Death is inevitable - - without some sort of belief in an afterlife, one without faith has to admit to him or herself that their life is nothing more than a mere biological chance that is limited to a hundred years or less.
There are many young people who use Yahoo Answers, and many young people nowadays have never gone to church or developed any sort of formal belief in God or religion. Thus, immaturity coupled with a true lack of understanding concerning matters of the spirit have led to ignorant and stupid comments made by such unknowing individuals.
Nevertheless, one should understand that faith is not by popular vote. What you believe is what you believe - - there is no way to prove it, nor is there any way to disprove it.

Some people reject God and his holy bible as an effect of their rationalizations or ideas for justifying their own sins and separation from God. It can also usually be the effect of their own false ideas about God and his word in the Bible not understanding the various literary forms God inspired to convey his divine truths in images understandable to humanity.
Those with pride get left in the confusion and pain of their own false ideas about God thus losing his benefits. Those who approach him and his word with humility get his light and grace for understanding what is hidden from the proud and unbelieving. If you grew up not believing anything your parents said to you without proof what would become of you psychologically?
At the same time faith is a gift fromGod. Those who dont have it yet and reject the gift suffer the dissatisfaction resulting from thinking their ideas are superior to God and his Bible. thus they are expressing their pain possibly subliminly calling out for help. It is our duty to Jesus who have faith to pray they get it too asking our Lord to take care of their problems with it and with him. The purpose of the Spirit of the AntiChrist pervading over the world now is to cause the denial of God and his rights and of the truth and recognition of Jesus as his divine Son, such as it does in the Quran and the Book of Mormon and the US govt and all governments.

because alot of ppl keep using quotes from it to justify thier arguments when truly they dont even know if thats what the quote means or was ever intended to mean.......................its kinda like using the internet as the end all to be all of facts and heck we know that is not true..........some of it is,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not a whole lot of it is.............remember all internet pages are depictions of thier web creators and nothing more than that.........wikipedia is as close as you get to facts but even that is not 100 per cent accurate.
I find it absurb that religious people think the bible actually helps make thier argument have validity...........it doesnt
