Ok, well this was a delightful surprise this Holiday season.

5 months ago around late August I was waiting to make a left and some guy in the right turn lane decided to change lanes as the light was turning yellow and speed straight as I was turning left.

He swerved and almost hit a car in the left turn lane behind me.
As the car behind me went past turning left too they gave me the finger and parked at shops. Figured they were pissed because they almost get hit.

As I was scared something might have happened I went back to the road quickly, and alas, no one was hit and everything was dandy.

Apparently those people behind me were dinged or something, clearly not enough to keep them at the scene or call the cops there so I guess they had my plate # and got my info accusing me of causing the damage though I didn't physically cause it (it was the man who sped and swerved).

It was five months ago. If this was an issue why am I suddenly being contacted now?? What should I do?It's shady

Call your insurance company. If these people are claiming you hit their car - they responsibility will be on them to prove it. With out a police report or independent witness, that's going to be hard. Especially if your car has no damage.

Your insurance company will investigate the incident and probably deny their claim. If the people file a law suit (even small claims) your insurance company will hire an attorney to defend you. If your insurance company denies the claim - you are not required to pay these people out of pocket. If they keep calling you - you just refer them back to the adjuster.

All you need to do is cooperate with your insurance company and give the adjuster the information he/she needs to contact the other side.

This way - the insurance company takes the heat from these people - not you.

contact the cops and tell them u r being harrassed and tell them what happened. tell them it wasnt you, it was someone else, u cant exactly hit a car when u r in front of it unless u reversed. it is shady. if they wanted money, they wouldve done it months ago, they just want to blame anyone

Report it to your insurance company. Be sure to tell them there was no contact between your car and their car. Let them handle it. They'll deny liability, and it will go away.

How did they find you?
At any rate, the burden of proof is on them. Ignore it until they start legal proceedings, which they won't do.
