Hi Candy,
I am an intuitive consultant and Tarot instructor, and from time to time I offer Beginner level classes online at very reasonable rates. Contrary to what some others have said in their posts, the Tarot does not *have* to be used as a divination (fortune-telling) device. The Tarot is a tool which helps us to tap into our own intuition and see the "big picture" more clearly. Like anything, it's all about the intention of the user.
Reading the cards is not a ticket to hell...it's one way to check in with ourselves and navigate our way through life's hurdles and challenges. With study, one learns that the cards are a language of symbolism and a fantastic meditative tool.
There are some great books out there on the topic...I would strongly suggest anything by Mary K. Greer. You may also want to check out www.aeclectic.net online. Good luck, and please feel free to contact me if I can help you along your journey.

Here is a fairly good description of various types of spreads:
http://www.angelpaths.com/spreads.html
As for learning them... get a book on tarot card meanings. It's much easier to have that on hand to flip through while you're practicing the spreads than it is trying to reference a website. :-)
Best of luck to you.

The best thing I can suggest is that you find a pagan/occult store and have them either explain it to you, or have them recommend a book to help you read them.
If I were to explain all the meanings of the major arcana, then the minor arcana, then their reverse meanings, then the different spreads... welll it would be a novel.
This is the website to the shop I frequented... they have many links and, if memory serves, you can email them and they'll answer questions or point you in the right direction.

Don't waste your time, life is precious. Live in the here and now, deal with your issues at hand. Trust me on this, you will only remember the readings that seem to give you good advice but you will have done 50 or 100 before you get one by accident that could somehow be interpreted as meaningful. No one can read the future because it doesn't exist yet. Live in the moment, make plans for how you want your future to turn out and make it happen. Don't waste your time on tarot or religion.

The easiest form is to lay out 3 cards, left to right.
The first card represents a critical element of your past. (look at the card, look at the picture, what's goin on, what does this mean to you, how does this make you feel)
The 2nd card (in the middle) represents where you are in the Present.
The 3rd card (on the right) represents where you're likely going in the future.
(this can be changed, because the future is malleable)
This is called the "Three Fates" spread, because it represents the Three Fates of classical Greek mythology (or the 3 Norns of Norse mythology, or the 3 Witches of Shakespear's MacBeth) who each ruled over one time period, the past, the present and the future.

Chuck 'em in the air and read them any way you like. Your results will be on par with those of every other tarot reader.

This goes along with one of the previous questions----------how to get to hell. Well doing tarot cards and not getting forgiveness is a way to do it. Think about it long and hard before getting into it. It can only lead to destruction, my dear.
