I'm sorry that it has happened better now then after you were married!
While most people believe if he broke it off you keep it its not that simple
If he took you to court most judges would tend to rule is his favor even if he broke it off as an engagement ring is usually considered by law a conditional gift!
A conditional gift means until the event that the gift was given for occurs the gift isn't final unless the ring belonged to your family or it was also given as a Birthday or Christmas gift!
If it was me I would return it anyway I would not want the reminder!

Yes, you should give the engagement ring back.
Engagements rings should be returned UNLESS an agreement was made between the two of you that you were to keep it "no matter what." And apparently you did not have that agreement.
And why would you want to keep an engagement ring that has no meaning to you?

I have never understood this question. If either I or my fiance broke off our engagement, the last thing I would want to do is keep the ring. What do you plan to do with it, wear it? Who wants that reminder every day?

Yes, you need to give the ring back. The reason the ring was given to you, was because it was given on a promise that you guys would get married, but because you didn't, you can't keep the ring. Sorry =(

If you broke it off, then you give the ring back. If he broke it off you get to keep the ring.

If he paid for it or is still paying for it then Yes.
Realy each state does have different rulings and you can check online what those are. But regardless, if he is still paying on it or if he paid then you need to give it back to him so he can try to get some of that money back

Yes. Legally, it is considered a "conditional" gift, based on the condition of you following through with marriage. If you don't give it back willingly, he could take you to court and win. Give it back and move on with your life.

Yes, I think you should. It is really etiquette. Call him up and offer to give him the ring back, or send it back to him registered mail and insured if you don't wish to speak to him anymore.

You should give it back its the right thing to do. If it was me I would get constant nightmares of what might of been and it would painful to have it around all and all sorts of negative things would go through mind evertime I look at it. IM so sorry it happened . best of luck for your future happiness.
