you wont fly it, you punch the GPS coordinate of your destination and the car travels an invisible road so to speak, the navigation system follows a flight path and maintains a safe distance from everyone else and stays out of normal aircraft traffic patterns, so yes you could get hammered and climb in because there is no driver/pilot seat only a touch screen to enter where you want to go. also all systems will be redundant and if there is any problem detected the computer goes into emergency landing mode.
however pending FAA / DOT approval expect prices to be in the millions

Keep waiting. Skycar made a flying car that can go up to 750 mph and carry like 800 lbs for around 700 miles. However there is a big problem. Idiots shouldn't be able to fly a car whenever and where ever they want. The government is stepping in to have the cars use autopilot GPS and all sorts of regs. Not only that they want more safety, if your car breaks down and your 2000 ft up....you fall 2000 ft. So it's not the fact that we can't make them, it's implementing them on a large scale to make them...idiot proof basically. Just think about how bad a drunk driver could ruin lives with a flying car.

merely needed to throw in my 2 cents, and accept as true with the advice to no longer employ a automobile, noticeably due for it gradual constraints. in case you do no longer techniques spending slightly extra, i'd propose utilising cabs to get around the city (and in basic terms going to three spots). the city is extremely small so the fares are not that top. Going to and from the airport is approximately $35 each and each way.

I heard Bill Higgins at Fermi Lab talk about flying cars.

This is never going to happen. Even if they were invented the air traffic control problems would very bad and the FAA will never allow ordinary people to fly. You would need a pilot's license and have to take off and land only at airports.

Hopefully never. Let's face it, the average driver is barely competent in dealing with the challenges of driving in two dimensions, adding a third dimension to the mix would be a prescription for total disaster.

Ah, if people can't drive on the roads without crashing into each other now, what would happen if they were flying around? I don't think i want cars crashing down on my house or me!
