I always just said thank you because that's how I respond to compliments but I think this is a special case because he should only be complimenting his wife. What's a good response that would make him stop?

DaBrat: I think complimenting someone's SUIT is a lot different from complimenting someone's physical appearance. I feel it's a little messed up for a married man to tell a woman who is not his wife that she is, for example, "gorgeous" or "stunning."

Where is it written that men are only supposed complement their wives? If you saw a male friend of yours in a really nice suit that looked great on him are you telling me that you would not tell him he looked nice in that suit? Just take it for what it is and say thank you and let yourself feel good for looking good. Also, do the same for others, people do like to hear that you know.

As long as the compliment isn't sexual, it's ok. If it is, ignore the remark or give him a frown and maybe that will get the message across.

say "thank u and i imagine your wife would like this compliment too". you can say this in a joking manner since u r uncomfortable with the situation. from ur ? i gather he has given u enough of them to make u uneasy with his attentions.

Just because someone is married doesn't mean they can't pay someone a compliment if it is harmless just say thank you if it makes you feel uncomfortable then say please stop doing that.

Compliments aren't reserved for spouses only. Just say, "thank you".

Say thank you with an expressionless face. That should give him the message.
