What kind of water is used for Holy Water?
I know with some pagans/wiccans etc they seek out spring water to bless.
So, I was just wondering what sort of water does the Church use for their Holy Water.

Thanks in advance!

Any kind of water may be used, as long as it has no additives. So you can't bless people licitly with Coke or Gatorade.

It used to be that all holy water for the year was blessed on Holy Saturday, the day before Easter. This water -- usually many gallons of it, were stored in a special tank and used as needed throughout the year.

Nowadays, holy water is blessed on the spot, as in the baptismal rite.

As water is one of the primal elements of Creation, we do not distinguish between spring water, tap water or lake water. holy water reminds us of the waters of baptism, which possess biblical echoes of the primeval waters that existed at the time of creation, the waters of the Red Sea through which the Israelites escaped Pharaoh, the waters of the Jordan where Jesus was baptized and the waters that rushed from the side of the Lord on the Cross.

All I can say about this, there is no place in the new testament about holy water.(KJV) There are references where people were baptized in water(Acts2:38). Where John said to be born again of water and of the spirit(Jn.3:3-5). Where it was neccessary to be baptized in water, not sprinkled(1Pt.3:20-21). The book of James 5:14, says : Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with (oil) in the name of the Lord. As for this term called holy water, it is not scripture.

All it is ..is just water that the priest bless and make holy so that when you enter the church you dip your fingers in it and make the sign of the cross. It is in reverence to God. But can you just imagine all the germs and skin cells from all those other people !

As far as understand it, its just water blessed by a priest and kept in a font within the church.

They probably special order their water from a place that distributes water for that purpose. It wouldn't seem right for a Catholic church to use tap water or water from a bottle.

it's just regular water. the only thing that supposedly makes it holy is that it's been blessed.
