Will probably end that way. Even George thinks it can't be won.
Can we win? I don't think you can win it.

As a United States Air Force Vietnam Veteran, I am totally insulted by your question. I and my fellow Vietnam Veterans from all the services, did not have errors in the way we fought the war. We won every battle we participated in. The war was lost at the negotiation table, by Henry Kissinger and Jerry Ford. It was helped along by the lack of funding the congress gave the military to fight that war. If the military could have fought the Vietnam War like it was supposed to be fought Vietnam would be one country. It would be a democracy whose capital would be Saigon. The war would have ended probably in 1967 or 1968.
The War on Terror is being won as I type. There are tiny little cells of terrorists left. Al Quida is loosing its domination on the cells. We are gaining the upper hand. We have every reason to believe we will win.
About your question. You are not only insulting, belittling, and just plain ignorant about the military in the Vietnam War and the military in the current war on Terror, you are also putting those titles on the people of the United States of America.

The War on Terror and the war in Iraq are two different things. There was a time when I didn't think we could win the Iraq war but I'm not so sure we will lose it now. As for the War on Terror, I don't think we can win that one; too many terrorists out there.

The U.S. is winning the war on terror because nothing has hsppened since 9/11. But to be more effective we must get the whole western world on our side. The islamist's think we are infidels and they desire to crush the U.S. and we must defend the Jews because they are God,s chosen People. I believe we are headed toward Armageddon, or at least World War Three.

Actually it is a winnable war the U.S. just does not try and win it the right way. Politicians are stupid, violence is not the answer. The single most important thing the U.S. could do is fund education and work to quell the influence of religious fundamentalists by the promotion of modernism in the Middle-East and in South Asia. By acting so antagonistically against Islam and violently against Muslim countries politicians give fuel to the ignorant people who think the U.S. really is the bad guy who hates them. But by acting diplomatically and responsibly working to aid countries with poverty stricken people susceptible to radicalism we stop terrorism from where it starts. If there are no people to support them, terrorists will dissipate. We need to understand why they resort to terrorism in the first place, they don't just hate liberty and freedom like idiotic Americans think they do. Rather they are told America limits their freedom and this propaganda allows clerics to control the mass of people. Reverse the trend of propaganda and we can win this war.

You will never win a war on terror ! There are to many places to hide and to many different points of views it will never end !! If anything I think we are going to see more of it in the days to come . People now see that the effect from it ! It can remove people of governments . Our homeland is probably going to see a new order of terror .As this country is starting to divide we are going to see insurgent with in strike ! How can you fight something that walks among you ??

We can't win the war on terror as long as the American people snivel and whine about "losing their civil rights" and how horrible it is that we "torture" captured terrorists and terrorist suspects. Except for those Americans who have been directly effected by 9/11 and other terrorist attacks, the majority of Americans just don't realize that civilized and reasonable responses are absolutely ineffective when dealing with subhumans. You don't stop a mad dog from ripping your throat out by trying to scratch its ears and say, "Nice doggy...nice doggy...please don't bite me."

If I had a dollar for every time I heard the argument that we should "give up" on the War in Iraq and allow the Insurgency to win; I'd be filthy rich by now. We won, they lost... End of story.
Next question...

There was never an intention to win the 'War on Terror.' It seems that the US is using the book "1984" as a manual.

I know what a bad thing for the US to do, actually get mad, and try to stop people who think it is alright to cut off a mans head, whip a woman because you could see skin on her hand, or use a 5 year old to blow up a market! What where we thinking?!
