Traditional table etiquette (ala Emily Post) dictates that one should not lick his fingers at a meal. However, a traditional dinner also should not include such messy food as ribs (or pizza, chicken, etc) which simply cannot be eaten with proper utensils in the first place. So in all fairness, it's OK in such a situation to lick rib sauce off your fingers, if done discretely.

Well, I know it's not good manners...... my last ex BF would always tell me "stop licking your fingers!" even if we were at home. I know it's not the classiest thing to do, but what the heck!!??? If you feel comfortable doing it and you're not having dinner with the President or at a 5 ******* restaurant, go for it.... enjoy your dinner, don't care about what the rest will say or think...... you can never please anyone, anyway! Who cares about the others? Just enjoy, we might not be here tomorrow and will regret not having licked our fingers for the last time ;) Besides, I feel it's less messy to first lick your fingers and THEN use the napkin... otherwise the napkin ends up all messy and instead of helping cleaning your fingers it gets them dirtier.

It really depends where you are. If it's a fancy restaurant then no, if it's some type of diner or something like an Applebee's than go for it. Just don't smack your lips when licking your fingers, and don't make it so noticeable. Oh and if the napkins are material then no, but if they're paper then lick away. That's what I would do.

Ribs are suppose to be eaten with your hands and I've always seen people lick their fingers. Most of these restaurants are laid back and people go to enjoy themselves! I say lick away and have a great time!!!

Ribs are the exception to the rule...of course you don't have to lick them like you have a finger fetish and are enjoying it a little too much, but just enough to get the sauce off...hey your paying for it, enjoy all of it!

Some people may be uncomfortable looking at you. But guess what? I think its ok to lick your fingers. Its actually healthy and encouraged. But maybe u shouldn't lick too much in public to avoid any misconception from other people.

Technically, you're not supposed to lick your fingers, but it's so hard not to when you're eating something so messy and delicious! I say go ahead and lick your fingers, just try not to be obnoxious about it, and make sure you wipe your hands with the napkin after you're done. I think that's compromise enough.

I think Ribs and Chicken wings are finger foods, so finger licking is OK. As long as you dont't make that smacking noise when you do it.
