You need to document this in writing every time it happens. Write down the dates and times this occurs and take pictures of the trash. Since you already spoke with them and nothing has been done, you need to contact the city and county for your state regarding illegal dumping. You may also want to contact the health department since they are dumping diapers which is unsanitary. Don't call the police as they won't be able to do anything about this anyway.

People who say call the police- do you think the police have nothing better to do than deal with this??? Has the violence stopped? Have people stopped abusing their kids and pets and driving drunk and selling drugs? Please- the police will laugh at you.

I say the next time it happens, pick it up, bring it over and knock on the door. Hand it back to them and say that the next time this happens, your trash will be going over the fence into their yard. Perhaps it's a kid or teenager too lazy to take out the trash and the parents just need to put the smack down. Explain you do not want to be a bad neighbor, but you are trying to maintain a clean home, and if you have kids or pets, eating a used diaper is not very sanitary. Nor is prescription drug consumption.

I had the same problem once! The vet suggested that I put plastic containers with ammonia in them (like the cleaning ammonia that you can buy at Wal-Mart or the supermarket) and leave them around the yard. Somehow the smell is very repellent to the dogs and they avoid the area. If you do it long and often enough, they should learn to stay away from the area. It worked for me, and no more dog poop in the yard. I have a small fox terrier/chihuahua mix that I walk morning and evening with plastic bags in hand to pick up the poo. Some neighbors have recently been letting their large dogs do their large business in my front yard, so I'm going to be putting out the ammonia again soon. Personally, I would also call Animal Control (or whatever it's called in your area) to get the animals picked up. I assume that there is a leash law in the area that you live in, so the owners will have to pay to get the dogs out as well as a fine for not having the dogs on leash. Should teach them to pick up after their animals. Good luck with it...I hate stepping in dog poop left by a dog who has an inconsiderate owner.

Pick up nothing and call the police. Ypu say you have no real idea about the presciption bottles or what else they may be taking. You are concerned about dogs, other pets or even children.

You are as well concerned about health hazards in regard to diapers and such.

The police will take care of it and you will have registered a complaint. Your can use this later if needed.

I say just dump the trash back into their yard, however if you live in a neighborhood that has a home owner association, report the incident to them, otherwise you may be able to file a complaint to the police department.

"SORRY" is a strange answer to why someone is throwing trash in your yard. If it happens again, I would carry the bag to their door & hand it to them. Ask WHY they continue to dump their trash in your yard.

Tell them you don't want to call the police but they do not give you any choice. You are not going to continue to clean up their trash in your yard. Tell them you take care of your own trash & they should take care of theirs.
That way you are giving them fair warning that you will call the police the next time.

Illegally dumping trash is one of the easiest crimes to trace.

Like you said, you found their name and address on some of the trash.

Next time it happens, call the police. It will be very easy for them to track down the perpetrator.

I had an experience that was similar. I was paying a young man in the neighborhood to take my garbage to the city dump. He thought he could save money by dumping my garbage in the dumpster at an apartment complex down the street. When the apartment manager complained of ill legal dumping of trash, the police actually went through the garbage and found my name on some papers. The police contacted me and of course I explained that I had paid this young man to take my garbage to the dump. He was fined $1,000.

I say the police, especially if you see that there's something with their address on it, so that there's proof that it came from them. There are littering laws with pretty stiff fines and sometimes jail sentences, not to mention that it's just downright trifling to do something that ignorant. You can also contact the city, maybe the housing court division and ask for help with solutions. If they're renting, call the owner of the property and let them know, as well.

Call the cops and the department of health. Both will pay him a visit. Oh, and keep the evidence as proof.

Something to think about, I live in a condo and we have trash bins that you take the trash to. Sometimes, people have their kids take the trash out and some of them like to leave it in places that aren't the trash. If they have kids, talk to them first. If not, make sure that you show the cops and/or the department of health the prescription bottles and/or trash that can prove it's origins.
