I work at Target and this past week alone 3 kids must have thrown up there. You know your kid isn't feeling well and obviously we don't want to clean up half digested pineapples off the carpet, so why do it?

For exactly that reason--do you think they would rather have to clean up after their kid when they could easily have them mess up a public place and play it off like they have enough on their hands?

Kids don't always announce they arent feeling well.

Other children are whiners and say they're sick all the time when really theyre just tired or bored, so parents can't tell when they're actually ill.

Sometimes kids suddenly feel MUCH worse. Its not like you know you're comming down with a stomach flu and not just some indigestion until the process of throwing up begins. Young kids don't have the political clout to be taken to the bathroom immediately if a parent isn't taking them seriously.

So yes sick kids are absolutely disgusting. I'm personally terrified of children in the winter time for just this reason (irrational fear of vomit on my part). But sometimes signals get missed, kids don't speak up, or they really felt a lot worse than everyone thought.

ugh i know what you mean thus far this month i have seen:

10 cases of strep in my line
2 chickenpox
8 pukies
7 bronchitis
24 unknown virus, flu type thing

so yea i understand and if you ever figure out why people do that tell me...

one of the chicken poxes was cuddling against me and touching me the whole time before the mom informed me the kiddo had just caught chicken pox (the spots were only on the tummy still). i have never caught before, btw. yea i was SO thankful they let him touch me, right?

plus, i have caught 3 stomach viruses, 5 colds and strep this year alone. i sack groceries and check and so don't want your kid's germs, right? (i serve 200 to 300 in a regular shift)

as for the reason, i have no clue. they will come through grocery shopping with a kid that was too sick to go to school due to being contagious... and then let this child get around everyone else. also, you can tell the ones who are going to puke. the are the ones who lean on mommy informing her my tummy hurts and get ignored till they throw up everywhere.

AMEN! SISTER!! I can't stand when parents take their kids out sick. I keep mine home all the time when they get sick. last week some kid actually puked in church, I was not there I was at home with a Vomittrocious 11 year old.
I waitressed at this one place and this kid kept telling her mom her tummy hurt and she was crying. The mom didn't do anything and the girl pucked all over the table and the floor. I was rude. I threw a couple of towels at her and said, " next time she complains of a tummy ache I'd listen, and don't expect me to clean that up."
I was TICKED!!

The reason they do it is selfishness.

Ick. Kids are gross.
But I agree that parents dont always know when kids are sick. When I was 5 I complained of a stomach ache and a day later, they found out my appendix was ruptured. My mom thought I just had a belly ache and kept sending me to bed. She cried for days when I ended up in emergency surgery.

When parents are aware though, yeah, better to leave them at home tho.

You've made me think twice about shopping at Target though...

There is no reason to take your kids out if you know they are sick.
As a mom I have had to run to the store when my kids were sick, but not to target, to get meds yes, but people stay home with your children.
When you are sick to you want to be out running around or at home in bed with a blanket, tv adn some LOVE!!!

The previous poster is correct that some parents might have to run out to pick up some things, but if your child is obviously beyond the sniffles and is vomitting or running a fever, stay the heck home! Why drag your child out when they aren't feeling well exposing him/her to MORE germs and in turn exposing other shoppers to the germ your child is carrying? To me and as a parent myself I find that completely irresponsible and it annoys me to no end when I see parents that do this. It all boils down to common sense which alot of people lack these days.

Insensitive parents.....Life isn't shopping, shopping, shopping...they have to learn to attend to the duties at home, (like their children being sick....) How much better the children would feel in a nice warm bed with a mother giving them fresh squeezed orange juice. The children need healing time but the parents think they have to be in that Van all the time with activities....

I hear ya - if they know the kid is sick, they need to stay at home. I'm sorry - there's no shopping that's that important. It's possible that some of these kids may not have shown symptoms of being sick prior to this, though.
