Ok. Its not that hard to learn, as long as you good natural rhythm and good ear. The other guy said something about being cooler playing the guitar, I just wanted to say if you get good and want to play in a band, guitar players are a dime a dozen, but a good bass player will AWAYS work.

Bass guitar is something you need to practise...It takes a little while to get your fingers used to the heavier gauged strings!...but it's fairly simple to get the basic patterns...because in any key there are only a couple of notes that will sound wrong?...so gigging with strange bands is easier if you just follow the chords...BUT!... you have to work closely with the drummer to get a tight backing?...If you are a frustrated lead player?...this may prove to be a challenge?...because being over busy on a bass can lead to a good song turning into a racket...try playing single notes on the 2nd and 4th beat of a drum machine?...then slowly add the run ups and downs...making the notes tight and punchy...you can wonder off occasionally but you must be there on the beat!...Bass should be felt and not so much heard... so dont drown out the band with thunder!...If no one notices you then your'e doing it right...If your'e new to a Bass try a Jazz bass it has a narrower neck than most and has a more varied tone especially if played with a plectrum...best of luck...

Yeah, it's pretty easy to pick up, but it's a lot bigger than an electric guitar and the strings are harder to press down. I personnally think there's a lot more freedom as to what you play and how you play the bass; You can play with 2, 3, 4, or 5 fingers, you can use a pick, you can slap the strings with your thumb, you can pull and release them for a loud popping noise, or you can tap the individual notes, each with a finger. Some people even strum notes on the bass, which makes a really cool sound.

Yeah it's very easy because there is no inteval change as with guitar.
You learn some licks, lock in with the kick drum and learn to play rhythms.
Bass is more of a percussion instrument than guitar.
You are a part of the drum kit, primarily the kick drum.

Everyone will think you're cooler if you play the real guitar.
Not to mention it's easy to go from guitar to bass because there are only 4 strings.
