Three religions now stand in the world, which have come down to us from time prehistoric- Hinduism, Zoroastrianism and Judaism. They have all received tremendous shocks and all of them prove by their survival their internal strength. But while Judaism failed to absorb Christianity and was driven out of its place of birth by its all conquering daughter, and a handful of Parsees is all that remains to tell the tale of their grand religion (Zoroastrianism), sect after sect arose in India and seemed to shake the religion of the Vedas to its very foundations, but like the waters of the sea shore in a tremendous earthquake it receded only for a while, only to return in an all-absorbing flood, a thousand times more vigorous, and when the tumult of the rush was over, these sects were all sucked in, absorbed, and assimilated into the immense body of the mother faith.
From the high spiritual flights of the Vedanta philosophy, of which the latest discoveries of science seem like echoes, to the low ideas of idolatry with its multifarious mythology, the agnosticism of the Buddhists, and the atheism of the Jains, each and all have a place in the Hindu’s religion

I don't practice completely a "religion" per say. I've studied & "tried out"several to see how they felt.
I was brought up strict ultra-conservative "Holy Roller" Baptist. It didn't comfort me much but made me feel bad & guilty a LOT.
Then I went thru a major change in my life where I decided to be the *real me* and to do that, I have to go about the process of learning who that is.
For me, right now, in this stage in my life, I am "practicing" Native American beliefs, which are very similar to other earth-based "religions" (Like Wiccan, which I also once tried).
I have Cherokee very close in my family heritage. And this is the first time I've never felt fear or a lot of guilt (just some). I feel more reverant about life, things are more magical. And I feel very loved by my "spiritual parents" (Father Sky & Mother Earth.)
That's just me. Someone really brilliant once told me that ppl choose their religious/spiritual beliefs based on what they *need* in their life. Some ppl need a lot of structure, ritual, berating, etc. where others seek peace, enlightenment, compassion, etc.

I am a religious zealot. I am a good husband and father. I give to the church every week. I help the needy. I tell people about Jesus every where I go. This is my religion. But none of that saves me. Because religion does not save you from hell. What saves a man from burning in hell is Jesus Christ dying on the cross for a mans sins. All denominations and all non- denominations and all non religious people are able to be saved by believing in Jesus.

I feel like we are so busy trying to find a place where we fit in that we end up missing the truth which lies within us.
