Buy Police Radio

You can buy a police scanner just about any Radio Shack or Sears & requires no license. I have & use one that has a send-receive radius of over 50 miles because of my work as first responder to emergencies & the fact I'm an armed guard. I doubt you can buy one because the police use a special frequency & can be traced when you transmit.

If you are talking about a police scanner, you can buy them at most electronics stores (Radio Shack, Best Buy Circuit City). This allows you to listen to some police traffic, but you can not talk on them. Check your local statutes for laws regarding their use. They may be illegal in some states and portable ones in vehicles are illegal in some states without license through the FCC.

Are you talking about an emergency scanner? Those are the things that pick up all the emergency calls in your area for the police and fire departments. If that's what you're talking about I think that Radio Shack sells them -- as do probably all the national chain electronics stores.

It is legal to receive any open transmission. Federal Law. So yes. And you can buy them. For home use. That is a open transmission. But many States have laws against there transportation in a vehicle. You can not have them in a moving car. In many States. They are called scanners. In your home you are fine with one. You can also have airport receivers, civil defense band, All ok, But can not broadcast on that frequency with out a license to do so. Try a good radio shop. Ham shop. They can put in the crystal you wish in a receiver. Junk yards to school buss, and most others.

Why don't you go to a radio hobby shop and get a scanner and a list of licensed radio frequencies?

(And hope that your local police department does not use scrambled radios.)

The best way, not the easiest way, would be for you to become a police officer, besides that you can buy a scanner at your local radio shack.

buy a scanner, then you can listen to them, at radio shack

but you can't buy a 2 way police radio, that would be illegal, you might be able to have a radio that can bring in the frequency and transmit, but you better not ever transmit
