I am not intolerant against Muslims or Christians. I am intolerant against ignorant people who use their religion to preach hatred and who spend their time mindlessly rambling off the propaganda they have been taught without doing any independent study of other religions.

In short I am intolerant against intolerance.

I don't dislike anyone without a specific reason. I dislike some Atheists here too :D Not nearly as many as I dislike certain Christians, though.

I think Atheists and Christians are more at odds because that's primarily who this forum is composed of. There's too many of both, and they seem to brawl and clash constantly, which creates more prejudice and more bias.

It's a pretty sad cycle, but then again, I admit that I'm a part of it. If Christians wouldn't insult and cram their Bible down our throats, maybe we'd back off on the "You STILL believe in God? How old are you? 5?" comments.

There are a few Christians whom I can respect. Like the ones that don't throw out ridiculous insults towards us Atheists, and ones that DON'T use the Bible to try to win an arguement. Seriously, people, don't use the Bible to try and sway an Atheist. It doesn't work. I don't hold that book with any credibility whatsoever, so I couldn't care less what it says.

I'm a Christian and just a few minutes ago told someone off for stereotyping Muslims as terrorists in general. Why don't you check out my profile and look at my answer?

I find you a bit offensive.

Sorry, on reflection I realised that you aren't necessarily the intolerant one and were talking about the culture of the online atheists that are on answers.

So to answer the question that you actually asked... I think that people slam Christians because they are part of the dominant culture in Western civilisation.

There's not a day goes by and i don't notice some imbeciles bashing Muslims and Islams.

It's so obvious that, now days the hatred, racial slur and discriminatory comments, statements to wards Muslims are overwhelmingly high and most definitely right wing nuts are the greatest contributor to this issue!

Frequently, I'm receiving visitors at my door step preaching Christianity and trying to feed me their belief thus convert me!!

Then, ''righties nuts'' labelling Muslims to perform this routine in which Ive never seen nor heard off that, Muslims walk around and force their religion!!

I don't feel that way at all. I try to be as tolerant as possible of all religions and cultures. In general, that may be true because Christians are such a vast majority on this website. Also, there is a great deal of Islam-"bashing" from a few of them. Maybe people do the same to Christianity because it needs to be humbled every once in a while. As I said, I do nothing of the sort myself, but that is probably the reason why other, unbiased people do.

The reason you are getting this impression is that the Trolls have found it is easier to imitate Christians and Muslims than atheists . What this means is simply that they do NOT understand our way of life or thought . The part that encourages me is that they are now starting to try this they have to study to achieve which may end up with them becoming good Atheists { repenting their sins if you will } .
In fact as far as I can tell most of the imitators tend to be fundamentalists or Jehovah's Witness types if you don't believe me look at what has been being deleted and whose agendas it serves .

I think what you're seeing is that a lot of Atheists (I am an atheist and Jew) have not arrived at that perspective out of intellectual reflection but instead out of adolescent rejection of what they were told to believe. The results of the two ways of being Atheist appear the same but the reasons are different.

Someone who arrives at a decision intellectually looks at as many facts and facets as possible and then comes to a conclusion. For that kind of person, they might look at Christianity and Islam in similar ways.

But someone who arrives at a decision adolescently thinks he's being special by rejecting something he's supposed to do, thinks he's being better by putting others down (and will choose those most around him to slam), chooses what to believe and accepts it in the same knee-jerk way as the fundies. Someone like that is going to reject the religion of his parents or neighbors more harshly than that of strangers. Also, someone who is just rejecting things adolescently will also reject the political views prevailing in his society because that makes him feel special in the same way. He can't be better than others if he isn't different from them and he is thusfar lacking accomplishments to satisfy his adolescent need to feel better than others.

I'm not claiming this applies to everyone who seems to tolerate Islam and slam Christianity. I have spoken fondly of both Muslims and Christians (and fellow Jews) on this site myself and critically of all as well. The people who make the differentiation you are asking about in what sounds like a calm, reasoned way probably have arrived at a greater tolerance of Islam through mixing intellectualization and their personal values. I was speaking above of the people who are nasty, vehement. Those kinds of people choosing to tolerate Islam and slam Christianity are probably just on that adolescent rant to put themselves above the surroundings they want to feel better than.

There are a few intolerant muslims on this site but not very many. There is a large number of intolerant christians. From an atheists perspective, when you have such a large group of people spreading hate it's hard to tolerate them.

Well since I live in the western part of the world, I have more christian religion shoved down my throat than islamic. Even though both is wrong, Christians pose more threat to me.

I have little tolerance for the adherents of *any* religion who advocate violence, racism, sexism, misogyny, and forced conversions in the name of their god. I'd give a little more credence to the "Muslim is a religion of peace" line if its adherents stopped blowing stuff up. And I'd believe in Christian tolerance if the adherents practiced it toward non-Christians.

I was born in the Kingdom of Morocco and lived in many Islamic countries. I know about the religion, so of course I am tolerate of it. I was raised by Christin missionaries. I know about the religion, so of course I am tolerate of it.

I have spoken on my behalf.
