Well, maybe her attitude and personality has to do with her father being in the military. Because her father is in the military, her family has to move, often. On top of that her father is very strict. This is just a little background and part of the story.

As the story progresses, her father gets stationed in (where ever). While stationed there, she gets into a relationship. The relationship is rocky at first then, later develops.

The story ends when the family has to move yet again. The reactions. The events that occur as a result. The resentment. Surprise ending?

I'm not sure I can help, but I'll try.
One of my daughters has always been loud, a bit obnoxious, opinionated, pushes physically verbally & emotionally to get her own way. She is the life of any party, even when there isn't one. Any room she walks into you KNOW she's there as she just walks in and takes over. Full of scolding, full of laughter, quick to anger or to stomp out and slam the door.

A favorite memory - when she was 3 or 4 the lady at the grocery store leaned over the counter and said "My what nice freckles you have!" Her response was quick, "God made my freckles and he made yours too!", my little girl said with her hands on her hips and her chin-up. Never once was my daughter shy or short of words - she was so quick to speak that she was forever putting her foot in her mouth.

This young girl we'll call Sheila. She's about 16 and has this mean streak, she was raised in the Bronx, her family was killed in a freak boating accident, and she's living with her alcoholic aunt who runs an under ground casino. Sheila doesn't trust many people but seems to befriend a retired captain of a ship who frequents her aunt's casino. She tells him of her nightmares that she's had ever since her family died when she was 10. The man, Billy, takes Sheila under his wing and promises her that he'll help her face her fears of "the ocean"... One day after winning a considerable amount of cash playing blackjack, Billy takes Sheila on a cruise to help her deal with her fears...Sheila is asleep in her cabin one night and along comes a knock on her door...she thought it was Billy, but infact is wasn't, it was the ship's captain, but not in reality, but in her dream. She screams and tries to fight this captain that ends up just being a ghost...who mutters the words treasure chest several times.
The next day Sheila tells Billy of her dream and he decides to
put Sheila on anti-depressants (just kidding) to take her to see the real captain of the ship. They meet and she sees a treasure chest beside the captains wheel, she suddenly remembers her dream. Later that night Sheila breaks into the captains treasure chest and finds nothing but a safe deposit key in an envelope labled Wells Fargo on 5th ave. (lol) She takes it and goes back to her cabin and once she opens her door she finds Billy there waiting for her. He said he needs to leave the cruise at the next docking site. They both agree to leave together and Sheila tells Billy about the key. He's mad at her and tells her to give it back but she refuses and agrees to show him the envelope. Billy screams and says this key is to your families safe deposit and snatches the key from Sheila and runs off.
You figure the rest
