I have to move my pool table to make room. I know that it contains slate, so are there any precautions I have to take when I move it to keep it from getting damaged?

thanks

Listen to Xophor!!! do not by any means have anyone pick it up at the ends!!! if you decide to move it without disambling it, make sure all mpck it up from the sides(long rails) if you pick it up by the ends, you will regret it!! assuming you have a 3 piece slate table. i have bought and moved a 3 piece slate, put it on its side, and took the legs off, and trucked it, and set it back up, without the slates shifting at all! i was impressed the slates didnt shift, as i normally take the table completlly apart to move it from house to house. i think its ok to move it without taking it apart, only if u do not pick it up by the ends! get enough people together, with a strong arm, and a weak mind(lol) together, to slowlly pick it up, and move it a few feet at a time. all lift together! you will not hurt it by doing this, and if the slates dont shift, or the base shift, you have saved, alot of money from someone pro doing it. if it works out well, all you have to do is level the table, at the feet. if your moving it on carpet, let it settle for a few days, as the carpet will settle. i put my table where it was going to be in my studio, and duct taped around the 4 feet, and moved it away a little bit, and used a razor blade knife to cut out the carpet spots, so it sits directlly on the concrete. cant even tell that the carpet is cut away under the feet:) any little questions or concerns, just ask, good luck ohh depends on what type of table you are moving, to lift it by hand, take the skirting off the table 1st.

Moving A Pool Table Yourself

It might be better left to professionals since you will probably have to have it levelled again anyway. If you do decide to move it yourself, you'll need about 12 strong guys to do it and they'll have to work in unison. The important thing is that it is NOT lifted on the ends...the guys should be on the sides only. If it is a large table, there's a good chance that the slate is in more than one piece and lifting from the ends could cause small fractures along the top edges of the "seams" as they are pressed together from the slight bowing of the frame.

No expert, but I have moved a pool table out of my basement. You know it's quite large, and if you have tried to heft it, heinously heavy. How far do you have to move it? If you have to truck it, I recommend professional help. There are firms that move pool table and pianos all the time, and guarantee their work. If you are just moving it within the house, do you have to go up or down flights of stairs? If so, you still might want to think about the professionals. If you want to do it yourself, get lots of friends, and clear plenty of space for maneuvering. You may have to remove windows or doors, or possibly even knock a big hole in a wall. Go nuts with planning, and measure everything twice.

Good Luck.

No, its not bad at all (although a shed isn't exactly the best place to put a pool table). All you would have to do is re-level it after you move it to it's new location.

Be careful. Generally, pool tables are disassembled before moving them. I suggest that you contract a table moving company to do this for you.

The best thing is, call the professionals and dismantle/detach it. Then mount/attach it all up on your designated spot.

- This will be the best thing because pool tables are expensive and very sensitive, if something goes wrong. it will haunt you when you are playing.
