Well, if you think about it, all foods are genetically modified. Farmers have for years taken the best of their crops or livestock to propagate more. They cull the DNA pool from passing along bad features. ie: In Dairy cows, it may be choosing the DNA lines that produce the most milk. For corn, it may be choosing ears that fully ripen and develop, not just stay husks on each end.

So yes, they are safe to eat.
