it could actually be many of the things listed.
I'm not a doctor but I get infections and problems down there all the time. its not that I don't take care of myself I jsut have had these probalems since I was born.

What the doctors, and many doctors at that, have told me to do very.

Go to the Drug Store and get the Cranberry pills called AZO. I would take more than just 2 a day, but the recomended dose is 2.

Go to the Pharmacy counter and ask if you would be able to get the over the counter prescription of a certain UTI medicine. [Even if it is not a UTI for certain it will still help the pain.]

I'm not sure what this medicine is called but the BEST medicine I EVER got and it worked almost 10-20 minutes after taking it was a pill that turned my urine BRIGHT ORANGE! Ask if you can get that over the counter. if not you are gonig to have to stick with the AZO pills.

The AZO cranberry pills will not harm him, you can even read it on the label.
I suggest him maybe taking one a day or as needed because he is onyl 5 years of age.

Go to the Grocery store and get Cranberry Juice. it is very good for you, it helps clean out your system and it WILL make you pee.

He is going to need to drink a lot of thsi stuff. It may even get rid of any infection he may have.

make sure he drinks this everyday more than once a day. it will help him. i knwo what it is liek to be in thsi kind fo pain.

If this infection or whatever it may be goes too far it will be VERY painful. He may even need some tyelnol for kids or something during this weekend.

I know it is the beginning of the weekend. So you have some time. to do all this.

Okay once the week actually starts, even if the pain is gone, Go To The Doctors Immediately Anyways!

I know what its lio feel liek you are better and it is gone and then have the apin come back two days later.

Also it may only be a girl thing but do not let him take any baths. It could make the infection, if it is one, worse.

Please, I hope this helps.

Take him to the er or an urgent care clinic. It sounds like he has a urinary tract infection. If it doesn't get treated soon, it can cause alot of problems to the kidney, especially at his age!! The reason why it hurts him is because he has blood in his urine (even if you don't see it, it could be a small amount)
Make him drink cranberry juice as well but take him to the er so they can give him some antibiotics right away!!
Does his doctor office have any on call staff? Try calling and see if there is a nurse on call for you to speak too and they will contact your doctor and he can advise you what to do.
Waiting till Monday is too long and will more than likey not be opened because its New Years Eve!

Any over the counter drug will only temporally relive it but will not make it go away. And being the age of 5, I wouldn't bother with the over the counter stuff anyways.

First of all, is he circumcised or intact?

If he's circumcised - it could be a UTI or bladder infection, in which case take him to an urgent care clinic or something.

If he's intact - then the pain could be from the normal separation that occurs when the foreskin begins to break apart from the glans (head) of the penis. In infancy and early childhood the two are fused together and as the child grows, they begin to separate. This can cause stinging while urinating. It's totally normal and resolves in a day or two.

So if he's circ'ed, then get him to the doc. If he's NOT circ'ed, then my first guess would be separation, esp if he has no fever, backache, chills, etc.

hunny, he prolly has a bladder infection, or a uti. I would get him in as soon as possible. take him to the Er. Seriously, u dont want to mess around with this.
but if u have to wait till monday then try this

if ur giving him bubble baths, STOP that is a cause of uti infections. And make sure that u rinse the soap off him good after a bath.

good luck honey

My daughter just went through this a few months ago. She was complaining it hurt when she went to pee, then later that night she couldnt sit and was crying in pain. I knew something was wrong because she can usually tolerate pain. I ended up going to the ER and she had a UTI.

Call the Dr's office I'm sure they have a Dr on call and will tell you what to do. Mean while have him drink plenty of water and if possible cranberry juice. We have a place called Children's close (Children's urgent care) to home you can take your child to if it is after hours or the weekend.

sounds like a urinary infection maybe the pharmacist can help suggest somehting. just like a girl put him on cranberry juice and suchlike. keep giving him fluids.
are there any cuts- a boys penis is pretty sensitive? check and sooth.
ouch! i'm nearly there with the potty training this weekend and have my boy in big boy pants- he loves to pee.
mayb there's a childrens clinic nearby thats open when your docs arent thats covered by insurance.

Call his doctor's office. They should have an answering service 24 hours a day to offer advise or tell you if it's an emergency and you need to go to a hospital. I personally have a daughter, and have never experienced anything like that with her, but it's not something I'd want to wait on..

Have him not pee. dont tempt him with water untill the weekend is over. Have him take an Ibprofen. Its a really good painkiller found in meijer.
Then take him to the doc first thing monday.
Have him skip school for a few days, you cant trust anykids. if they mess with him, give him cheapshots(nut shots)
they could all mess him up really badly. Just make sure you give him only one Ibprofen per how many hours it says. Dont overdose him.
