I always get boils in the areas where my skin is rubbing something - underarm, groin (worst here), and ankle. Sometimes it's so bad it hurts to walk. They seem to cycle - they crop up about once a month, last about two days, then start to grow and eventually drain. I've seen a doctor (multiple times), I've been given antibiotics but they don't do a darn thing, and I'm so stinking fed up! Is there anything to do?

As a few have suggested (I didn't take offense; don't worry ;-) I _am_ a bit overweight, however, I'm not necessarily talking about where skin rubs skin. That can be a bit of a problem, however, the worst are in areas where skin rubs clothing, and always in those puberty-affected areas (except perhaps the ankles; that's from rubbing against the shoes).

Hi Chris
Here is a testimonial on how to heal the issue
BOIL CURE REPORTED WITH TURMERIC, MAGNESIUM AND ZINC
12/20/2007: Susan from Goldsboro, NC writes: "Tumeric, magnesium & zinc rids boils. Since June of 07 I started getting very painfull boils every few weeks about 20 in total. After several courses of antibiotics failed I began heavy research. Discovered the three ingredients when taken during the first 12 hours stop the bacteria chain which causes the boil from developing. I immediately apply a magnesium/zinc based lotion - found "LaCure Dead Sea foot lotion" works best. It contains, salts, minerals including magnesium & zinc plus it is a natural antibacterial and anti fungal lotion. I apply it 3 times daily. Then I take magnesium with zinc supplements orally 200-400mg daily and also drink a hot tumeric tea 2-3 times a day until the bump is cleared. Usually takes 2-4 days. Since doing this any bumps that appear never advance to full blowm boils and I no longer get the pain that was accompanied.

Go to GNC or your local health food grocery store like Whole Foods and buy two things. First is a liquid soap called Dr. Bronner's Soap. Get the tea tree variety. Wash with it every single day, especially in the areas where the boils show up. Every day is important. You need to increase your water intake as well. You also need some vitamin packets called Emergen C. Get the rasberry just because it tastes the best, or orange. Take two packets a day, morning and nite. It tastes kinda like fizzy koolaid but not as sweet. Last thing, you need to get some Gold Bond Medicated powder and use it in your groin area. If you are using an antiperspirant, you should switch to a deoderant instead. The underarm boils will definitely react to an antiperspirant. Also, for the time being, use the spray kind if you can. You don't want to just be wiping the bacteria back onto your skin. I used to have boils so I know what you are going through. Has been years now and I haven't had a single one.

Sounds like you have sensitive skin like me. So you have seen a doctor multiple times, is it the same doctor or different doctor? I suggest more than one doctors opinion. I get boils from too much acid in my diet, orange juice and hairspray did that to me. Sounds like ingrown hair and/or heat and moisture causing bumpy boils. I get that on my bikini line where the material rubs. Since it comes about in cycles I bet it is your laundry detergent or fabric softener. The most likely causes is detergents, heat or sweating, or your diet. While you are trying with your doctor (do not give up) try your own experiments such as healthy diet, unscented allergy free detergents, and powders to keep you dry, etc. listen to your body.

You failed to say how long U were on antibiotics, it could be U have not been kept on the medications long enough to completely get rid of the inffection. Did the physcian say it was a staphylococus infection. It may require a long term treatment of 1 of the stronger medications. Please ask questions if U haven't already. Good Luck

Are you over weight?
Also you could of had so many antibiotics you may be immune to certain ones. I would get a second opinion.

Have you tried putting "tea tree oil" on them when they start to form? You can get it at your local drug store (walgreens, etc). Give it a try, it smells strong but it should dry it up and works good as an antiseptic.

if you've been to the doctor, and it hasn't helped, you might just have to live with it. try cornstarch on the areas that rub. it'll help a little.
