The Vatican has denied expanding the number of exorcists: http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/166065.html
However Catholics have been casting out demons ever since Jesus and the Apostles did it.
Modern psychology says that most of the people who had demons cast out of them were probably miraculously cured from schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. But their cures were still miracles.
The Catholic Church believes that real demonic possessions are rare but possible, so they keep a few exorcists around just in case.
The Church has guidelines in place to take great care to exhaust psychological options before calling in an exorcist.
For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1673: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2chpt4.htm#1673
Anglicanism, several Protestant denominations, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), Judaism, Hinduism, Scientology, and Islam also practice some kind of exorcism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exorcism
With love in Christ.

I think it is good that they are bringing back this practice, and no longer ignoring this problem that while rare, is very real and has destroyed many individuals and has torn apart entire families.
It is true that many of the things that were referred to as "demons" in the Bible were diseases that medical science has since figured out. But not all. (For example, the demons referred to that begged to be cast into the pigs instead of oblivion were obviously not germs, as they spoke.)There are definitely evil entities or energies that prey on people, whether you believe that they are demons of Satan in the religious sense or not. Hopefully one day science will be able to figure out just what these energies are and where they come from, but until then we have to use what works, and for whatever reason, they do not like the words used in the exorcism ritual and are susceptible to them.
Evangelist: If you really think that this no longer exists, you have been fooled and should maybe consider giving the squad a call yourself...if, according to the Bible, it was to no longer continue happening after Christ cast them out, then why did he give his apostles this same power? (Luke 10:17; Mark 16:17,18; Acts 5:16; 8:7; 16:16-18; 19:12) Read your Bible before deciding on this matter, sir.

Assuming demons exist and I had the flu and a demon inside me, I would choose an exorcism over a flu jab anytime. But in the real world yes flu jabs are probably more useful to most people.

I just read in today's newspaper about the billions of dollars the Catholic church is paying for their pedophile priests. anyways, maybe an exorcism squad isn't such a bad idea, it's a better activity than molesting boys.

Actually it would save the tax payers millions of dollars each year. Right now the treatment for Demon possession is to call the cops and have them arrested for disorderly conduct or to have them committed to behavioral science institutions. I have seen many of them. I worked at a jail for three years.

Demonic possession is a reality, where do you think a third of the heavenly host who were evicted from heaven went! yes here on earth and some are v v nasty. and can get into us they can be difficult to remove, you have to come across one to believe it but then its relatively rare.

We need exorcists on Yahoo Answers, to stop the demons from claiming petty violations.

man is unable to perform mericals like the casting out of demons. exorcism squads are stupid to the most extreme sence of the word. there also are no real demonic posetions since christ cast them out. satan has other means to corrupt man, like "exorcism squads".

What, exactly, will they be able to do anyway? They can't touch you unless you ask them to. They can't hold you down, or throw holy water on you, or put oil on you, or even get into your house. It's not like the middle ages. What a poor idea.

It's much better than all that money they spend on lawyers for their sex offense cases.
