I am a very old man now, so I do not always know what is going on today. When I attended a Catholic high school, every student was required to take a course in Apologetics.
The first part was concerned with the five proofs for the existence of God. The second part was concerned with examining the scriptures for their historical reliability, especially the four gospels. The third part examined the scriptural basis for for the priesthood of Christ, and the general councils. Also the teaching of the church fathers was discussed.

Uncertainty like this is the direct result of religious pluralism. You either believe or you don't. If you want to get technical about it, how can we here in the year 2007 know for certain that Abraham Lincoln existed? General George Patton? Karl Marx? Do you see where I'm going with this? All the years of historical research over the last 200 years coupled with undeniable archaeological evidence have more than validated the bible's story.

easy. prophecy!
go compare say daniel to greek history. realise daniel was written centuries before alexander set up the greek empire, but it details accurately it's entire history.
compare the nations in revelation to todays political maps. you'll notice national boundries were reshuffled in the 20th century to align with bible prophecy.
proof positive is the rebirth of israel as a nation in 1948.
these are the proofs god offers. he declares the end from the beginning, so that when you see it you'll know god exists and he's in control.
read your bible. understand. don't go to the harlot churches. prove god on his terms which no other can offer.

You have to have faith and believe that God exists. Even though we weren't there to see the events in the Bible, we have to have faith that it did. Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what you do not see.
Church is a place where we can worship God, draw close to him. We can learn more about God and praise him. Of course you can learn about God in other places too, such as devotionals, or a bible study or something.

How do you know what is written in newspapers, magazines or books is true? Even what you read in your own diary?
We go by other verified sources, history, science, even the honesty of the writers. Most people are revisionist when writing, meaning making themselves come out better than they actually were. Some how more heroic, making few to no mistakes.
Bible writers however wrote of their own mistakes and all. Not sparing themselves with any lies. You can't help but trust such people.

When we see a computer, we know somebody made it. When we see a universe made of billions galaxies, we know in our hearts that someone made it. Too vast and too perfect. In Israel, archaeologists plot their digs by Bible information. The cities and civilizations they have found conform to Bible information. But the most convincing proof is the millions who have experienced the "new birth" Jesus talked about in John chapter 3. If you read through the gospel of John and every time it talks about receiving eternal life, just do what it says, you will also experience the "new birth" and you will receive eternal life. Best thing that ever happened to me!

Archaeology attests to the places mentioned in the Bible as real,
extra-biblical literature confirms Biblical accounts of people, customs and other facets of culture,
bibliographic evidence of new testament scrolls reinforces confidence in the reliability of the Bible,
The Dead sea scrolls contain much of the Old Testament, some scrolls dated at around 900 BC and matching the books of the Bible,so if not primary evidence there is enough circumstancial evidence to convince any thinking unbiased person that the Bible can be trusted in its accounts.

Yes, God exists, and put it this way, if you read the Bible and compare the events that are happening in today's time, it will be the same, Jesus is soon to come :-)

obviously u just go to church does not do anything in itself. you have to have a relationship with our heavenly father, you get this trough prayer and reading the word of god(bible) an listening to the preaching. these things all feed your spirit and help you to grow in your faith. if u are not getting these things in your church i advise you to consider changing. this earth exsisting is proof that there is a god and if he says that the bible is his book then it is.

What, to your satisfaction, constitutes “proof”? Can you consider fulfilled Biblical prophecy to be adequate evidence of the Bible's reliability? How about the effectiveness of the Gospel to change millions of lives?
Even knowledge and proof are subjective. People who "knew" Pluto to be a planet now have "proved" it is not. Some people who have been "proven" guilty in a court of law are now "known" to be innocent.
In matters of faith, PROOF is superfluous. In maters of fact, even so called "proof" does not always enable us to really KNOW.
You have many questions in one. I'll take them portion by portion and then expound upon the problems of proof and knowing below.
Hopefully, this response will provide some satisfaction for your plea, … “please help me”
You asked, “How do we know God exists?”
- God only knows! We do not.
Regarding the Bible you wondered, “…how do we KNOW that those events even took place”.
- If you consider it possible to “know” by faith then that’s how we can know. Otherwise, we don’t KNOW.
"What does going to church do? ...WHY???"
- Each person who attends a church has her or his own reasons for going to church and you have yours, even if they are not clearly defined.
"is there any PROOF any of this even happened???!!!"
- Again I ask, what to your satisfaction, constitutes “proof”? There is both some archeological evidence and some historical support.
--------------------------------------------------------------
My father has two birthdays. According to his family, and everyone who claims they were there, he was born on August 31st. However, his parents argued for two weeks over what to name him. Finally, an aunt suggested they give him all four names (first and middle from each parent’s insistent choice) and the hospital put the date of his naming on his birth certificate. Therefore, his birth certificate is legal proof that he was born on September 14th, whereas the testimony of his parents and family friends is only truth not proof.
I have two birthplaces. Both my birth certificate and my parents attest that I was born in Savannah, Georgia. However, due to a clerical error, my DD-214 (Army Discharge), which is also a legal document records that I was born in Newport, Tennessee. The two documents constitute conflicting evidence and require testimony for verification.
On Saturday evening, May 29, 1976 at approximately 8:00 p.m. in the Peniel Mission, front row, third seat over from the left, which was at that time on Howard Street just off Sixth Street in San Francisco, California, I had a religious conversion experience. I interpreted and still interpret that experience as God’s response to my fervent prayer. However, a neurologist or bio-physicist might interpret the experience as a hysterical experience as a result of a bio-chemical response to my distressed psyche produced psychosomatically by my subconscious mind. Who is right? Who is wrong? God only knows! That is, of course, if there is a God.
Before May 29, 1976, I was a semi-agnostic assenter to the possibility of a God, but not fully a believer. Now, thanks to that experience, I am profoundly convinced of God’s reality. Either I am correct or I am delusional, but since I am convinced that I am correct and not delusional, if I am delusional, I shall quite happily continue in my delusion.
Yet, by faith, based on my personal experience and my developed belief in the practical effectiveness of Biblical principles as well as my accepting belief in the testimony of countless Christians I have either met or read, I feel that I know that I know that God is real and His word is True.
I don’t know if this response helps at all, but the desire to help is my evidence that I care. I care because I belive God gives me a caring spirit. I "know" that I am more caring since my conversion experience than I was before it. Is that "proof" that God changed me?
