Shave them anyways. They are YOUR legs, not your moms.

Be careful.. do it seated, in the bathtub. Start off- first time, I mean, by getting a good razor. One with microwire protection against cuts would be best. How to get the money? Well, seriously, if you have an allowance, you cna get money that way, or you can offer to do stuff for your friends moms, for money. Dont tell them why you need the money. If they ask, just be vague, and say "Just girl stuff, you know". Once you have about 10 bucks, you go to walgeens or the grocery store, and buy the razor of your choice. Disposable razors are cheap, but its too easy to cut yourself with them. Try Noxzema triple or 4 blade razors.. they are flexible razor blades, and the handles are easy to grip.
Also, schick has some razors with microwires on the blades, so that you dont have to cut yourself.
Ok so you sit on the edge of the bathtub, in the middle of bathtime (soak your legs for a few minutes before you shave them- it helps to get a smoother shave) . Sudsy up one leg, and rinse your hand off. Wet the razor blade, by dipping it in the water first, and gently run it from the enkle to the bottom of your knee. Do this all the way around, being careful, more gentle, around the ankles, to avoid nicking yourself. Next do your thighs, all the way around. Be careful around the back of the knee area- its a common place to get cuts. Go from the knees up. Then, stand up in the bathtub and get behind the knees. Make sure your legs are straight.
Then you will want to sit down and straighten one leg, and very carefully, using very short strokes, get whatever hair you can see on the fronts of your knees. Lather up, before you make any stroke with the shaver. Wet and soapy, thats the best way to shave.
Dont shave your arms, or face. Your armpits, perhaps. Dont be shy about the belly or breast area. I shave any hair I find on my body, lol. Even the toes!! =)
Again, its your body.
Say to your mom, when she notices: "It is MY body, mom. I govern it, not you. Its called autonomy. I am sorry if this dissappoints you, but I am growing up. I love and appreciate you and your opinions. Please support mine, too!"

Autonomy is pronounced "Ahhh taaa no mee"
So ahh like when you go to the doctors office, open wide and say ahh..
Taaa, is like ta-da! (tall, taunt, tonsil- to give you a better idea)
no- like saying "no" (nope know, nobody, gnome)
Me- (Amy, army, me, meek)

It basically means that you control your body, and nobody else should really be able to make your bodily decisions, if you are capable of making them yourself, which you clearly are. =)

Good Luck! Enjoy your smooth legs!!

When I have kids I will let them shave as soon as they get hairy and start feeling uncomfortable about it, no matter how old they are(a little 6 year old isn't gonna be hairy, so that would be at about 9 or 10 anyway). It really helps a kid's self esteem if you let them do those things and let them look the way they want. I think you should definitely be able to shave if you feel that uncomfortable with hairy legs. You should tell your mom how you feel.

My daughter started shaving her legs when she was about your age. She on the other hand just picked up the razor and did it. Her dad was upset to say the least. It wasn't a good idea. Be confident in who you are. Who cares if your legs are hairy? I'm sure the hair isn't even noticeable. On top of that, if someone is going to judge you because of the amount of hair on your legs why would you want to befriend that person? People who are superficial aren't good people at all. Make sure your mom knows your concern and explain it to her well. She will probably have a few more words of wisdom for you. Trust me, it's no fun having to shave your legs all the darn time!

My daughter is 11 and just asked me for the first time if she could shave her legs. I put her off because we are in the middle of winter here - I'm thinking I will probably let her in the summer when we get our shorts back out. It's a hard thing to let our baby girls do.

Someone just told me that if you wax your legs before you ever use a razor, then you can go another approximately 3 years before you will ever have to shave again. I'm going to research that and see if it's true.

the problem is, once you start shaving you have to stick with it more or less. try a facial bleach on your leg hair, maybe just lightening the hair up will help take the focus off of it,. If not, you'll be shaving soon anyways, just explain to your mom how uncomfortable you are with your hairy legs and ask that she teach you how to shave. If she knows your serious about it and serious about learning how, maybe she'll give in.

If a ten year old has a lot of excess hair then yes they should shave. I cannot understand why parents make such an issue out of this. My son started shaving his face in 5th grade. No way should a parent MAKE their child go around feeling uncomfortable and unclean when there is an easy solution. It's complete ignorant thinking and behavior.

Hair DOES NOT grow back thicker and longer. When hair grows out it is tapered. When it is shaved the end is blunt cut. Making it appear to be thicker. Hair grows from the follicle NOT the cut end of the shaft. Shaving has no effect on growth.

My daughter was your age when she started to shave her legs. Have you told her how embarrassed you feel when people see your legs? They do notice it, especially the other kids. Her dad did not want her to so we bought her an electric razor. She used it for a couple of years before she started with a regular one.

I have a cousin who is part Greek with very dark hair on her legs. At age 11 her mother noticed that is was embarrassing for her and began letting her shave. Have you talked to your mother and told her how you felt? I can't imagine ever putting my child in the position to be embarrassed. I'm sure if you can calmly discuss with her your feelings she will understand.

Good Luck!!

That is not a query. Do you imply is ten too younger? My reply could be sure. I agree at 10 you're nonetheless a baby and also you will have to experience your formative years and no longer fear approximately that. Trust me, there will likely be lots of time for that later.

I started when I was 11. I actually did it behind my mom's back. Then I felt guilty and told my dad, and he didn't seem to care at all.

I don't think a mom has any business telling her daughter she can't shave if the daughter feels it's time.
