Wow..
Okay you should get a 80gb
If there was still some 60gbs around here i would highly recommended that because it increases your compatibility with ps2 games!

But right now second place is 80gb it has everything the 60gb has just lowers the compatibility part.

Oh yea about the hdtv part the ps3 goes all the way up to 1080i 1080p with great resolution and quality no twitches.

But i think once you get it you wont be worried to much about your ps2 games you will lean more to the ps3 games such as resistance call of duty 4 unreal tournament GTA!!!!!!

Well i hoppe you make the right desicion and you are very satified at the end!

Get the 80GB PS3, the 80GB PS3 can play most PS2 games. Any PS3 can hook up to an HDTV.

The 40GB PS3 can not play PS2 games.

And do NOT buy an Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 has a 33% failure rate, and the PS3 has a failure rate under 0.02%, the PS3 is much more reliable.

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc).
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

60 gb is discontinued, however for backwards compatibility purposes with the ps2, it's the only one that's fully compatible (besides the 20gb, which you can't find anymore these days)

the 80 gb has limited backward compatibility, but is the most abundant these days. the 40 gb is not backwards compatible, so if that's crucial to you, then don't get that one.

your best bet is trying to locate a 60gb, but if not, then the 80gb will be fine.

all models are hdtv compatible.

You Want the 60gb model, at this point its hard to find because it is discontinued but the 80gb also plays ps2 games, it just needs updates once in awhile to play more, 60gb plays them all out of the box

the 80GB is the only one with backwards capability as of now, and it also comes with this awesome off-road racing game called motorstorm. so get the 80 gb. you will have to buy an hdmi cable if you have an hdtv (to get the best quality and sound), you can find them for about $30-$50 at wal-mart.

hope you enjoy your ps3
