Not very often but no more than 5 minutes, TOPS!!! And they know to lock the doors while I'm away. I never go in anywhere with them in the car where I can't see them. They are 7 and 9. I live in a very small, close knit town so I feel safe. I would never do that in the city.
After reading all the repsonses about how these people NEVER leave their children in the car and all the thumbs down that those of us received for leaving our children in the car, I had a few more things to say. It has been mentioned about people forgetting children in cars, cars being hijacked with children, and children putting cras into gear. First off, I'm not talking about leaving a child in an infant seat. And I'm not talking about running into the store for a major shopping trip. I don't think any of these others mothers are either. I have had sick children, on the way home from the doctor, when I needed to buy gas or pick up mail at the post office. I would never want to expose them to anyone else to get sick nor would I want my child to feel worse.
I find it very hard to belive that all these mothers have lugged their children out of the car when they needed to run back in the house for something they forgot or to drop a letter in the mailbox. It seems like all mothers play the the perfect role when it could make them look like bad mothers. We try to make ourselves out to be perfect and our children perfect. We were asked an honest question and those of us who answered honestly got "punished". If we were more honest with each other, as mothers, it would make it so much easier. I know I don't put my children in harms way, nor do I take my role as a mother lightly, nor do I think any of these mothers have. I just think that when it came to answering this question some mothers were more worried about what others would think of them rather than answering the question honestly.

No for the realistic reality that you just can't believe different humans. Someone might scouse borrow your automobile or scouse borrow your baby. Whether you lock the doorways, take the keys or depart the home windows open, I suppose you're tempting destiny. I used to be not ever left within the automobile regardless of how speedy the errand used to be. I understand so much mom and dad say it used to be a speedy quit or the little one used to be napping however I suppose that's striking an excessive amount of believe on strangers.

When my boys were little, I took them everywhere with me. I can say I only ONCE left them in the car. When I came out after less than 30 seconds, the car had rolled backwards, and my 6 year old was sitting in the drivers seat with his foot on the brake. Needless to say, I NEVER left them in a car, running or not again. It was a stupid thing to do. I have a grandson now, and I will ALWAYS take him with me - there will NEVER be a time I will leave him in a vehicle. It can be exhausting, but worth it for the peace of mind.

I don't.
Last weekend a lady in town left her 11yr old and baby in the car (it was running since it was cold) at the store. A guy broke in and started to drive off. The 11yr old jumped out of the car but the baby was in the carseat in the back.
The police found the car an hour later. It had been run off the road and through a fence. Thankfully the baby was okay but very cold.

I have never ever left my kids alone in a car. It is such a terrible idea...you never know if someone will snatch them out of the car, or if the car will be hit by a careless driver, or if the car will be stolen with the kids in it.

Hold on before you say 'everybody does it', thats wrong. Dont you watch the news? Cars get stolen with kids in the back all the time while the parent was just running in somewhere. Its not that difficult to unstrap a kid(s) to bring them in wherever you're going.

Mine stay in the car sometimes if I run into the store or the post office but they are teenagers and the doors are still locked.

Never! Are you crazy!!!!! How many cars have been carjacked each year just like this. Why run the risk of something happening just so you can get a donut from 7-11!

When they were little; 2 mins to put something in the postbox/ through a letter box, never long enough to go into a shop.
Now; as long as it takes. They're 15 and 16 LOL. 3 more months and the eldest will be learning to drive.

Never. Whenever I get out of the car, my kids get out of the car too. Too many kidnappings occur when parents leave their kids in the car alone. That will never happen with my children. I think any parent that does this should go to jail.
