I got some 'monster' slippers for Christmas (the big furry sort) and now the cat runs away every time she sees them, she even strikes a hunting pose and attacks them!!!

Seriously, are cats this stupid that they can't distinguish a slipper from another animal?

Hello Rick G,

Exactly the same thing happened to me. I just kept wearing them as my cat had to get used to them at some point or other so now my cats attacked them a couple times and i just stood there, so they got used to them as long as they dont swallow the slipper fur, she should be okay.

Feel free to email me with any questions at any time, ill be happy to help.

Kindest regards,
Amanda.

ur cat proberly doesnt see it as another animal... more of a toy, a play thing. he/she is only attacking in a playful manner... but then he/she may feel threatened by ur slippers... the best thing to do is leave ur slippers out at night so he/she can have a proper nosey at them without u, or anyone else around. they can then rub their scent on them an know that they arent a threat. it may take time, but eventually ur cat will realise that ur slippers are nothing to be afraid of, and in the end he/she wont pay any attention to them... well unless they're in a playful mood.

what age is your cat?
dose it spend much time outside where it could stalk live prey?
do you spend much time playing with your cat?
does your cat have any playmates? either in the home or outside ?
cats are hunters by nature, the younger the cat the more they tend to display hunting traits. if you dont spend much time playing with your cat or it has no playmates your cat may well be keeping itself entertained by doing the most natural thing in the world to it.
leave the slippers out for the cat to check 'em out. you'll prob find that after a while they'll lose interest in 'em. however you wearing them around is a whole other story!!!! it stops being a slipper and becomes a live moving prey ripe for attack. as for being scared of 'em? they're prob as big as your cat!!! wouldn't you be scared of em??
your cat is doing whats natural to it, if its not really doing any harm let it off, you can be sure your cat is really enjoying your slippers, and to be honest you'll prob end up bursting your sides laughing at the antics

I think most cats see things as a threat or a toy , try getting a treat you can buy cat treats and give her some then leave some by the slipper , that way she will relate your slipper with a treat . hope it works

They aren't stupid. Do they look like an animal? Maybe your cat just likes to attack feet. My cat would always go after your feet if you were wearing white socks. Try introducing the slippers slowly. or maybe just watch the way she attacks them. She could just be feeling playful.

LOL....... No cats are clever, the cat is hinting that the slippers are hideous. Who wouldn't be scared of them. I suggest something nice and simple, but don't get a cat slipper that will confuse the cat xxxx

Its normal.
Funny and slightly odd but normal.
They aren't stupid, it is unusual to them, she would never of seen a ''monster'' before!
Try taking them off and putting them down on the floor for her to sniff at and lick, she'll get familiar with the smell of the slipper and not go to attack.

Ha! I so laughed out loud. Well, if your cat doesn't like them, she probably never will. But by covering them up and bringing them out of cover slowly while the cat is near and resting, you might show her that they're nice slippers.

I love cats, but yeah, they sometimes at not the brightest creatures! I got a leopard print throw rug, and my cat RAN out of the room when I put it down. Then a few days later, he "graduated" to attacking the thing!
