Hello Hot pink,

You have nothing to worry about, the same happend with my kittens, My Tootsie couldnt meow until she was around 1yr old! It sounded like a sizzle noise when water meets something hot! You shouldnt be concerned at this stage.

Feel free to email me with any questions at any time, ill be happy to help.

Kindest regards,
Amanda.

I asked this one a while back 'cos my daughter was concerned. I will give you the benefit of the answers I received, even though I knew them already.

Some cats howl like banshees at 5
months.

Other kittens let out a pityful little squeak.

Others may even seem to be trying but not be able to vocalise it yet. You will suffer later.

Worry if your kitten is not attacking your ankles, trying to trip you up when you go downstairs, climb/ rip your curtains to shreds, not putting on weight or is getting bullied.
If all of the above is to your satisfaction then the "meaowing" will come later.

Ha, well, I have a 3 year old male. He's huge, 15 lbs. But he still sounds the same as he did when he was a kitten, just a squeaky little cry. But the other started changing her meow after about 4 mos. So really, they may change soon, or they may never change.

my 8 month old kitten at bedtime will howl like a banshee but until he was 6 months old he had a very pathetic meow and his mumma and daddy did all the talking for him. now they sit and chatter to one another. other kittens from the same litter still have a very high squeaky meow and others don't meow at all. i wouldn't worry he/she will develop a meow when they are ready. it is more funny to listen to them learning to hiss and spit and growl. especially if they are half the size of the grown ups and have a grown up growl and hiss. we were in stitches this morning with our lil bagheera hissing at daddy (cat) all because daddy stole his toy mouse. bags wouldn't dare to hiss or growl at mumma (cat) she still puts him in his place.

4 and 5 months? They should definitely be meowing properly at that point.
