Is it trully an amazing thing to do?

Is there anyone here that has had a blood transfusion or had a relative who has had one,

were you grateful about it.

What I would love to go is donate bone marrow, especially to someone who finds it hard to find a match. I would also like to meet the person that I have saved, but I know that would not be possible.

What are your experiences?

I am O Rh Postive, is that the most common blood group?

Like you, I am type O Rh Positive. And am a regular donor.

Blood type O is considered as the universal donor. Never had the opportunity to receive blood products but our mother (bone surgery) and brother (liver surgery) did. I am ever grateful to those who donated blood.

---

There are several blood types: A, B, AB, O.
• People with type A can accept types A & O blood.
• Those with type B can accept types B & O blood.
• Type AB can accept AB, A & B blood.
• Type O can only accept type O blood.

There are two Rh (Rhesus) factors: positive (+) & negative (-).
• Clients that are Rh + can accept both RH + & -. Rh- blood is only given to males who are cleared of any reaction, and women who are past childbirthing age.
• Clients that are Rh - can only accept Rh - blood.

My son was given 4 units of blood during major surgery when he was 14. We were very, very grateful to the 4 donors whose blood he received as he could not have had the surgery without it, and without the surgery he would have died. He is group B positive so much less common. His Dad, who is also group B + is a donor and I have given too but cannot now because of health constraints.
I am also a nurse so am acutely aware of the need for regular donors....I admire you for what you want to do and yes, it is a truly amazing, selfless thing to do and can literally save lives.
O positive is the most common group in the UK, very closely followed by A positive but I believe in the USA it is group A which is the commonest.
Have a happy life :-)

O positive is the most common blood group. 50% of the population share this group so you're in good company!

I used to give blood, but I'm taking regular medication now and can't give it anymore.

Giving blood is a good thing to do. It's essential that hospitals have a good supply of blood for people who really need it.

of course donating blood or marrow or plasma is an amazing thing to do. it saves lives.
if i'm not mistaken, donating blood marrow costs $$. you have to pay for the procedure (i think). i've heard it's pretty painful. but if it saves a life it's worth it.

Blood type O is not necessarily the most common type of blood, but it is the most useful. People with blood type O are referred to as universal donors because people with any blood type are compatible with them. Similarly, people of type AB are universal acceptors, since they can take anybody's blood.

Help save a life... its worth it.

I donate every few months myself. They actually use my blood for babies. I never really thought of it, just a prosocial thing I do. But it's possible that someone is alive because of me, so it should be amazing.
