As a dental hygienist, I can tell you that severe gingivitis is a serious and severe issue. If you are a young person with severe gingivitis and you do not treat it properly with regular dental cleanings and proper brushing and flossing, you will likely lose your teeth! Severe gingivitis can be painful with swollen, bleeding gums and it usually gives you bad breath. The good news is that is is usually treatable; it just takes work. It's not stupid to ask questions, especially about a medical condition. A more educated patient is going to be a more motivated patient, so please search for more info on gingivitis so you can help yourself.

Hi, you are not stupid at all, it is a perfectly reasonable question.
Severe gingivitis is worse than minor, but gingivitis is not a serious condition. The good thing is that the dentist has seen you and has hopefully has advised you how to care for your gums which means that the gingivitis should not get any worse and in fact should soon be better.
Just keep with the good toothbrushing and the mouthwash and you'll be ok. Take care :-)

follow up with treatments

forget about the mouthwash, buy floss instead and use it...
